This year he was, Cokehead is not as fast as he was.
I read somewhere recently that athletes performed better using glucose as fuel than they did when using fat. That was both explosive energy and sustained energy. League players obviously need both explosive and sustained.
So the Fox going carnivore would probably have impacted his performance. Not saying he hasn't lost pace because of age or even coke but carnivore and keto seems to be a bad idea for athletes.

Just needed to take a look at him to see why he isn’t as fast as he was previously. He put on so much muscle in an attempt to be the metre eater Ciro wanted. It’s not his game.

Average run metres per game for 2024:

Jacob Kiraz = 189.
Blake Wilson = 161.
Josh Addo-Carr = 132.
Marcelo Montoya = 126.

Where did this narrative that Montoya is a big run metre gainer come from? He averaged less run metres per game in 2024 than JAC.
That one footage where he ran over some **** who was coming sideways at him and had no momentum anyway. Aside from that Montoya is absolutely shit. Squad player at best..if you're short on wingers

Depends to some extent on whether the Wahs relied as heavily on their outside backs to supplement the movement up field.

I think to an extent CC knows that saving our middles for some defensive efforts might've trumped the need to have them progress us up field all game. So we used our wing and centres for tackle one and two hitups. It reduced the need for our big fellas to have to rush back and be ready for taking the second tackle hitup.

At any rate, I'm not that worried about what they expect of Montoya. People here still rate him poorly on the years he spent in an poorly performing backline. All I'm worried about is how he performs in his next game for us like every player who dons the jersey for the club. He's older and more experienced. We probably have a halves pairing that will deliver better backline movements. And I'm not even sure if he's got the jump on Wilson yet.

So It's academic for the moment. Time will tell if he even sees much NRL and until he does, it's early to write him off. I'd say his first task is putting himself in position to be first picked on the wing outside Xerri.
Spot on...
Numbers give us indications but not the total picture, importantly for Montoya is to tidy up his ball handling and defence !

He ran straight over kiraz in the first dogs v wahs game this year, ran over him like he was a under 12 div 2 player, and kiraz makes that tackle 9/10

West tigers CEO said the tigers have the best spine in the NRL, and the best backup spine in the NRL….

I didn’t know where else to post this..
I saw that and was thinking the same.

If they fail he going to have to eat those words, the old saying under sell and over deliver comes to mind.

Will be interesting to see how they go. I thought Galvin did look promising. However I thought Bulla took a step back was prob the second worst fullback in the comp last year only just ahead of Sloane. API is getting on a bit as well and starting to spend quite a bit of the season injured. What’s happening with Douey as well?

Off topic but any thoughts on the Broncos Reynolds/ Hunt halves combo? - imo could end being a case of two aging/ slowing halves doing a lot of pointing n kicking but not much else

I'm sure that either Reynolds or Hunt will feel massively benefited by learning the game under one or the other.

In the pics from training, looks like Wilson has really bulked up
Runs like he is coming off the back fence - love it
Really like the look of Alatini.

Impressed in the lower grades and reminds me of a Tyson Frizelle style player

Hopefully keeps developing and could be a real strike backrower in a couple of years

Yeh i wouldn't really rely on stats only for this, because the teams field position dominance comes into play as well with those stats

From an eye test point of view, Montoya has the better returns.

We'll just wait and see what ciraldo goes with, at the moment I'm inclined to think that Montoya will win that spot

Not saying it's right or wrong, just what I think ciraldo will go with
Na I actually looked at it before and Montoya is just slightly ahead although his workrate is a fair bit lower than Wilson. Keep in mind Wilson had pneumonia last season which fucked him around too.

Swap the wingers or centres though?
Yeah true I wouldn't have an issue with Xerri playing right edge either as he did so in lower grades and early on in NRL.
I like having Critta defend opposition left edge shifts though also.
