Never got to see Johns of Coote but I’ve heard of their greatness particularly Coote..
Les Johns was a freak who looked like an alter boy.

I was young but my family still talk of his greatness.

They rank : 1 Johns. 2 Mortimer. 3 Lamb.

Ron Coote was a sensational lock forward for Souths/ Easts.

Along with Arthur Beetson, Ron is probably in the conversation for best forward ever in my view.

Great tackle but the guy trying to score was slow as and ran bolt upright which gave him a chance.

I almost fell asleep in the first 20 seconds of the highlight when the ball was in the ruck.

If I picked the greatest Bulldogs side I've seen from my nearly 60 years following the Dogs, Johns, Mortimer & Lamb would be the only certainties to be picked (I'd find the rest of the team very difficult to pick).

And If I picked my favourite players from other teams from the same period, Ron Coote would be in my top 10.

Steve Mortimer had so many..and on much bigger men. His tackles on a rampaging Grothe we’re legendary..
Fuck yeh, never love the opposition player but gee Steve Morris could play too.

Andrew Ryan's ankle tap on Crocker pretty much won us the premiership. So it's no1 in my books
I thought we were on track to pump them that day as we know they didn't, so that moment was heart in mouth stuff leading by just 3 with just on a minute left iirc.A sensational and matchsaving effort.
