I agree it was great experience and would rather take the loss now, cause if we vs them in the finals it'll be harder to win twice

The Panthers and Dogs game being so defensive and low scoring is remincent of the Bulldogs in the mid 80s, the Dogs of war and their matches against Parra the panthers neighbours lol.

It showed the Dogs are once again contenders. But it also showed the Panthers are getting back to their best in recent weeks. If they make the 8 they will be hard for the bottom 8 sides to beat.

It would be a great revenge if we meet them in the finals and especially in the GF which would be a classic GF for the ages I reckon.

It was a good game once the ref got out of it we should have won though few missed chances.

1993 semi final loss to the Broncos. Dogs played great, Lamb had a fantastic game. If I recall right Lamb was in tears when being interviewed after the game.

In 2021 the rabbitohs lost to Penrith in both games during the normal season, then rabbitohs beat them in the first finals game, and Penrith then got em in the gf.

In 2022 Parramatta beat the panthers in both normal season games and then lost in both finals games against Penrith.

In 2023 broncos won the first normal season game then Penrith won the second and also took the GF from Brisbane's teeth

In 2024 Melbourne beat Penrith in both normal season games and then lost to Penrith in the GF.
I
I think losing to a team that may possibly be in the gf is a good thing rather then beating them and then losing in the GF

The reality is we got to win the big games. We cannot afford to have players drop a stinker moment. Players need to be better at icing those moments. In the close games everyone has to be on point and do their jobs to the highest level.

Every so often there is a regular season match with 2 contenders where both teams play great. That's what happened last night. Chances were created and blown, points were left on the field and there were some plays and decisions we'd like to have over.

Losing sucks but we will be better for it.

What are some of the great loses we have had over the years? Not just close losses but games where we will look back and say we played a great game?

I'll nominate:

Round 12, 2004
Panthers 40-29
Panthers scored two late tries to win late in a great game of footy. I was there and left absolutely gutted with the loss but couldn't fault the effort. We went on the get revenge latter that year.
yeah I was thinking of that 2004 game too

It was a great game. We lost. That is what I'm talking about. It happens in sport from time to time.
Don’t let them get to you. Sone people refuse to be happy.

After years and years of mediocrity we have a great footy team and the best young coach in the game and still complain about both lol.

Defence outstanding! Attack and general support play needs work.

The reason Raiders score all those 'fluke' tries is because they push up and support in numbers.

This was not a great loss.

most Frustrating loss? yes!

We were dominating the panthers till the point we made stupid changes and benched our hooker.
What if this is part of a CC plan to ensure other players can cover multiple postions, im going to say CC is proactive to tinker with this before finals..

I may agree with you but this was not the game to experiment new ideas.

Maybe if we were winning by a considerable margin or against a weaker team then i get it but not in the most intense game of the season.

Wasn't a great loss yet.
Will judge that in full later in the season, for example;

1. Will we step up to the plate and take our point scoring opportunities when they are on offer, eg penalty goals.

2. Will Burton learn to stop going for the hero plays running into touch trying to score. Grubber kicks to the in goal on 1st and 2nd tackle, risking our possession on short drop out.

3. Players like Mahoney and Montoya having brain farts in big games. Montoya with the foot into touch. Mahoney faking left and right only to go directly into the marker and passing the ball, luckily we got 6 again from it. But stupid things like this fuck the teams flow and momentum.

4. Ciro making stupid positional changes.

They said that we would learn from the Manly game in finals last year and for a large part we have. But I saw things in our game last night in the seconds half that were quite similar to the way we bottled that game also.

After that game if we take our licks, leave Kiraz where he is suppose to be amongst other things, we will go a long way to making the GF. If we don't make top 2 though I think we are in trouble.
Well said on points 1,2 and 4.
Unfortunately brain farts happen. You just hope they are not frequent and not repeated. No way should Montoyas foot been over the sideline.

What i saw in the second half was abit too conservative and robotic plays. We had a whole half to score points and couldnt create anything. Our pre game go-to play was to isolate Kiraz on To'o in the air but we couldnt get ourselves inside the red zone to try it.

What waa needed was some x-factor play in middle or fringes to create a half break and get us into their red zone.

Critta knew this and chanced his arm a couple if times. Many on TK criticised him for it, but if he doesnt have a go, we dont get to Penrith's red zone and we dont win. So id rather see him try rather than not.

Biggest lesson is to take the shot at goal.

But if winning would we be under pressure..

Wasn’t a loss - the big chin just got in the way of the kick. Never ever did they beat us convincingly, in fact they struggled even with the big ugly chin controlling the game. The chin that took them to 4 GFs and won, the chin that I so badly want to knock of his ugly face lol. Was an unlucky loss - it was a mighty win for Penrith cos they are a SHIT team.

END OF.

I like to refer to the chin as a pronounced jutting jawline below his mouth - (PJJ)
