I agree with him. This is a joke, particularly after Orford withdrew.

From ABC News

----------------
City Origin captain Craig Gower says he is disappointed to be named at hooker instead of half-back for Friday night's clash against Country in Lismore.

Brent Sherwin will play at half-back after Matt Orford, who had originally been named in the position, was forced to withdraw.

Gower, who will pack down against opposing captain and last year's New South Wales hooker Danny Buderus, plays half-back for Penrith, a position from which he led the club to the 2003 NRL premiership.

He said although he was honoured to be chosen to lead City, he was hoping to be selected to play in his preferred position.

"I'm a bit disappointed, I'd lie if I said I wasn't, just in the fact I want to play half-back and I got named at hooker," he said.

While Friday night's clash has been billed as a selection trial for the New South Wales State of Origin squad, its importance has been questioned in media circles due to the fact that the Blues' members of the Australian Test team have been rested.

But Country coach Craig Bellamy said his squad was treating the match seriously and were intent on pushing their claims for inclusion in the Blues squad for the opening State of Origin match in Brisbane on May 25.

"They're playing for Country, they're representing their families, they're representing where they come from," he said.

"In the back of their mind, I'm sure they know if they play well on Friday night, that's not going to do their Origin chances any harm."

any good city slicker hookers that will also be disapointed?

the only city born hookers, i think are
Mark Riddell (who played city last year)
and
Craig Wing (too good for this type of match:p)
the manly guy is also from Sydney

he has played at Hooker before in city vs country
I think they are playing Sherwin at halfback based on his experience with Braith in the halves......

I dont know why Gower is upset cause last time the

6.Anasta
7.Sherwin
9.Gower

combo did wonders for City vs Country

But Craig Gower has always played like that!
If he was so great how come he wasnt tearing it up from the start of his career?

It took Luke Priddis,Preston Campbell and a season of mixing in the halves with them 2 before he became *good* ....................

If the Panthers didnt have Luke Priddis they would not of got to the GF in 2003

Gower has played well in patches but never been that outstanding. He probably gets his raps mainly because he's a 'club player' and is tireless in defence and gets his team revved up a bit.

In attack I would put Sherwin, Orford, Johns and Kimmorley all ahead of him.

Are you serious?

I realise this is a Bulldogs site and all, but I wouldn't call Gower crap. For those non Panther fans, he's is an inpirational captain to us and is most valuable.

Gower "wasnt tearing it up from the start of his career" because when he first started Greg Alexander was the # 7, with Steve Carter # 6. We couldn't leave a player with that calibre out of the starting side, hence him starting at hooker.

I recall Gower being picked in the Australian, Super League Test and NSW team at hooker, as well as the combined competition at hooker. For someone not playing in his natural position due to other circumstances, I believe this is a great feat. Similiar to that of Brad Fittler when he started.

Lay off his back. Both Sherwin and Gower are great halfbacks for their respective clubs.

If Sherwin was picked to play hooker rather than halfback, Im sure you guys would be discussing this in great detail too! It's just fortunate Gower happens to be a great dummy half as well

I like Gower he is one of my fave players outside our club....it is probably good that both have been selected to share the half back duties...the less game time, the less likelihood of an injury.....
