Can’t displace Tanah Boyd - not a great endorsement.

I listened to Gus podcast yesterday and they were talking about Luke Brooks. He made the comment that Brooks was a good signing for Manly even at $800k.

Matt Thomson seemed surprised and Gus responded with :

“You don’t realise how hard it is to sign a halfback. All the good ones are either tied down or you have to break the bank to sign them”.

I know a lot of people on here think they know more than Gus but you are crazy if you think he hasn’t been working overtime to sign a 7. But you can’t just make one appear and you can’t overpay one and break the bank.

I know fark all about Sexton. I have seen a few of our young halves play NSW cup but as soon as Flanno scored 4 tries in a game there that comp became irrelevant

What is Ben Roberts doing these days?

Also we might as well extend Josh Reynolds on 1000 dollars a week. The amount of reserve grade players like Brooks commanding six figure salaries is insanity…

INSANITY!

Renyolds was only on a grand a week during train and trail.
He's on proper money now but still not enough, he should be a top earner.

It’s like a dog shitting on the grass and flies swarming in lol
Reminds me of a Soundgarden song called Outshined...

'Well someone let the dogs out, to show you where the truth is, the grass is always greener, where the dogs are shitting'

All paper talk, why buy into it like it's the gospel?

Also, if a player re-signs for their current club and we had an interest, that's not missing out on a player. That's the player staying put. Well done to club and player.

If a player chooses to leave their current club and we show interest but they go elsewhere, then we have a problem. Why did they choose that other club and not us?

You haven't missed out on signing a player if the player stays loyal.
This is a good post.
Because it makes it clear we aren't a Destination club.

We are still a basket case club.
And what's more, we are now not interested in paying market price for top halves.

Perhaps basket case is too nice a term....

It’s our failure over several seasons to pay the correct market price for anyone.

We pay overs for players to come and play positions we don’t need players for.

Whilst key positions that we are paper thin on quality. We persist with the budget under pay model of developing our own.

One day players will develop and I’m all for the development structures Gus is implementing. For the here and now though experienced players need to be sourced externally.

Not bringing in an organising half and a couple of alpha forwards is doubling down on our growth as a squad.

Burton is playing at half his potential purely and simply because he is playing a role that is not in his skill set. Bring in that organising general some dominant go forward forwards and Burton would be like a new signing.

CC should be talking to his good mate Fitzy and working hard on getting Trindall. He is not the superstar high price halfback. But he is exactly what we need. He is what we are missing.

Gould should have kept JMK.
So far our big signings have done sweet Fckall
