Tons of gold have fallen out of the sky in Russia after a cargo plane malfunctioned in mid-air.

The aircraft was carrying £265m worth of platinum, gold and diamonds when the hatch flew open - sending the precious metals plummeting back to earth.

According to the TASS news agency, Russian authorities have recovered more than 170 gold bars weighing 20kg each.

The plane was travelling from Yakutsk Airport - a major diamond-producing region - to Krasnoyarsk.

However, the Nimbus Airlines AN-12 cargo aircraft made an emergency landing in Magan after it began haemorrhaging valuables.

Reports suggest some bars of gold were scattered up to 15 miles away from the airport.

Police have sealed off the runway, and say it is unclear if it was an accident or a deliberate attempt at a heist.

Technical engineers who worked on the plane prior to take-off are reportedly going to be questioned by police.

Assuming this fell in your backyard, or through your roof, you could never do anything with it anyway right? Because they'd all be tagged/serial numbered/etc.

If that did happen, melt the part that has the tag on it considering it would be engraved within the gold lol.

If a fuckload of gold fell in my backyard I'd try to hide it for a few years. After that I'd move to somewhere that it was being dug out of the ground pretty commonly by small scale miners and set up a shop where they came to sell it. It would be easier to dribble it out over the course of years if you seemingly had a legitimate source for where you were getting it from. If you tried to get rid of it all at once soon after something like this happened it would make people suspicious.

Or it hits the roof and ends up in the gutter, and you sell the house forgetting about it...

Then in come the new owners who think it needs a change. And the person who discovers it is a trady. He pockets it without telling you and chargers you and arm and a leg for the job too.

*Social experiment idea*
