A lot of the calls were correct, however he is way too pedantic with his officiating and it seems even worse for us. Even Ciro commented on him wanting to penalise everything.
Sometimes it can be the “timing” of the calls. A six again is not really beneficial if it is first tackle, the position on the field is crucial too. More advantage if late in the count and in your red zone if you are having trouble getting out of there or close to the opponents red zone. At one stage the quickness of play the ball favoured Broncos by quite a way but according to NRL stats was level come end of game. A lot if the time with Sutton his calls are ones that we rarely get done for. He seems to pull them out if the bag if you will. One ruling that puzzled me was the retake of the penalty kick in which if the ball gone to touch would have landed about ten to fifteen in Broncos half. Trainer leaving field gets hit so what does Sutton do …. Says retake kick and LESS distance gained on that one, a disadvantage yo us at a time where we could have done with a bit of luck. Should have been according to my research still a tap restart for us ten in from touch where it hit the trainer. Two reasons a trainer is not a player and therefore is not afforded the benefit of interfering with play and in reality if an official( not a referee) or trainer is hit it is actually a penalty. Also a quick penalty situation is only allowed in certain circumstances and not for the following; 10 metre penalty; ten metres from opposition try line ; kicks in general play; where mark is advanced and where there is foul play. Last night a quick play was sought by us on an instance where NONE of those happened from that list but he said Can’t do it IN CASE there is something that had to be looked at. To me that defeats the purpose of stating something can be done if you have to stop and check it. Hopefully we get back up off the ground and start the process again. Last night was disappointing but not perhaps unexpected.

He doesn't let games flow. Any chance of getting into a rhythm in the first half was spoiled by the whistle
And the fact we couldn't get back on track and none of our players took control to make it happen.

Agree. He's not to blame for the loss or our dumb ill discipline but he only sees things one way for the majority of the game when adjudicating our games. There were 2 leg lifts from Broncs when he had the opportunity to penalise them for the same type of incident, but didn't. (Personally they were all not penalty worthy but he chose to run with what helps our opposition.

He's not a good ref at the best of times and a real spoiler in fowling up good games, but it's uncanny how controversial his reffing is.
Exactly. Remember our guys getting done for lifting the leg in other games.Salmon Mann are two. Same instance in those games for the other side ,unpunished.

Sutton is not going away anytime soon get used to the shit calls.
He is a pedantic prick who doesn’t allow the game to flow, pulls up the most minor of infringements and over police’s the ruck. Efforts to curtail momentum by slowing down the play the ball result in a constant run of six agains/penalties.
Our brain dead play at times last night was easy fodder for his whistle.

We gotta be smarter when he's reffing bc we know for sure and certain that any 50/50, bounce of the ball, good luck etc etc won't be coming our way under him.

Just a known fact.

Exactly whether you like it or not, know what you are going to get with him so adapt accordingly.
Love his aggression but the rubbish Sitili served up was just dumb and he didn’t put the team first with his actions. Should have been hooked and told to pull his head in.

I just hate the way he gets that smirk on his face when he makes a ruling and has to “explain”. He looked like he was going to cry when he had to send the Bronco player to the bin. A lot of the time we don’t get the 70/30 decisions. Our record under him now equates to something like a 16% win ratio. Forget the penalties , he can engineer those to read like he is giving an even spread.

Just a fun fact on this. They changed some waffle about this in 2019 where if a trainer interferes in play, the play is replayed. So the application of the rule is correct (not that you'll find this anywhere as its not written in the NRL ops manual or international rules). But they have applied it a few times.

Now the fun bit. If a player unintentionally and illegally interferes in play (for example, an offside injured player gets trampled), its a scrum at the place of 'offence'.

40m scrum might have been nice eh?

Please note, if you want to make a deal with this user, that it is blocked.
The Human Flea strikes again, he should never be allowed to ref a Bulldogs game ever.

Yeah I looked at rules to get my answer. SO if it is applicable should it not be written in the rule book as such ? Typical of the constant “ refinement” of the rules. No wonder the Donkeys trainer was laughing about it.

He has perfected the art of manipulating the flow towards our opponents.

Yes, good summary. When I saw who the ref was yesterday I knew the Dogs were long odds to win so I put some on the gronks with their 4 point start at the tab. The Dogs have about a 20% win rate under that clown. Anyone who studied Statistics can do a T-test analysis and know that the difference in the Dogs win rate between that ref and other refs is statistically significant - which in layman's terms means it is not a coincidence.
Hacky McAxe Hacky McAxe was asking this very question last night is thier a mechanism when a ref is probed for thier performance. A 20% win / loss rate is an indicator.

If you look at how much time their trainers spent on the field you could argue they were an extra player.. or two if you add Sutton

I hate to say it, but he will probably get our game next week. Needs to keep up his outstanding percentage rate of influencing games. I remember way back when we would all dread getting the late Keith Page as our ref because we did not do well under him… but not to this extent. At least over his career we had a 50% win/loss.

I'd love to know how they got an advantage out of their trainer obstructing play. Trainers are involved with the team, and as such it should have been a tap for us where it was landing, or another penalty. We lost a few metres and some momentum for that effort.

And we thought when Alfie retired from running the water and the defensive line we'd see less blue and orange shirts lol.

Next week will see where we are really at. Hayward at 6 = not bad at all! I reckon we turn it around. Raiders game always our bogey game and team

That should have been a penalty from where ball hits the trainer you see there in that moment Sutton says kick it again. Spectator, yes kick again, a member of another team there has to be accountable for getting in the way of the play.

I noticed from first try they all looked dejected and not interested then Toby yelling at burton sounds like he didn’t go the way he wanted with the ball when it was 18-0
