I'm actually considering getting a laptop and interface to play through computer.
I believe some great amp simulation software these days.
I’m not playing shows so I only use plugins and software.

Can recommend plenty.

2 Ibanez RG 6s
1 Ibanez RG 7
Solar A2.6
Schecter Jeff Loomis signature 7
LTD MH350
LTD TE200
Cort EVL K2
Yamaha RG
Some Yamaha Bass
Some shitty acoustic

Gave away an Ibanez GIO 7 and a shitty LTD M10

Get this as your interface. Input directly into this.

Pair of studio monitors

Download this for free as your DAW

Literally my set up. I use an old Toshiba Satellite laptop from like 2013 which can run most software fine without the CPU fucking up.

The better the laptop the less worry you’ll have.

Perfect.
I'm thinking of using headphones rather than speakers.
But don't matter,
I'm on the right track.
Hey quick question.
I like to play along to YouTube videos.
I usually play YouTube vids on my home entertainment system and play along through my amp.
I want to use headphones to not anoy family and neighbours
With a lap top and interface
Can I play along to YouTube videos all through the laptop through headphones

Sure can. You can get a pair of AKG studio headphones for as little as $60 that will do the job just fine. Just need a different sized headphone Jack adapter (I can’t remember the size but they are like $3 from JB).

Yeah literally

Guitar > Interface > Laptop > Plugins (software) > out from my Studio Monitors.

You can run pedals in front of your interface also but with the software you really don’t need anything anymore.

All I'd run is a wah pedal

How do you, or how can you switch between clean and distorted tones on the fly mid song
Say a song like fade to black where you switch between clean and distorted

MIDI foot switch controller or you can map changes in the software where you can quickly press the space bar to change presets.

I’d suggest a YouTube deep dive for the best option.

I’m basically all heavy all the time so when I do play clean shit I’m already in a preset for it.

Neural DSP amp suites are my go to.

STL tonehub is great, look into Amphub also.

There’s literally hundreds of different plug-ins, full suites, individual pieces that you can get your hands on.

The chase for tone will never end.

All the big dogs offer free 14 day trials that you can use, if you know your way around the internet you can get your hands on them in alternative ways too but that will change as everything is starting to run through iLok now preventing piracy.

The free stuff out there is just as good as the expensive gear - you just need to know how to use it.

New Avenged Sevenfold album is trash. Don't bother with it.

However,

New Bring Me The Horizon song is a beast.
