Interesting how he died 'peacefully' .. He used to be a Christian but rejected the faith after seeing the extreme poverty in India..

I recently went to India for the first time... My wife's family is Indian.

It's ridiculous when you walk the cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai (Not as much), Jaipur etc... The amount of poverty is unbelievable however literally a few streets away the amount of wealth is equally crazy. The rural areas are a whole different experience.

The cast system in India won't change anytime soon....

India has to the highest number of millionaires in the world. There are a lot of people with money but the thing is they don't spend a lot of money on things we do. For instance here, most of us have Life Insurance and Health Insurance. In India, they don't really care for that because that's a waste of money to them.

The other problem is they love gold... They buy and sit with gold for generations, literally it does nothing.

Politicians are trying to encourage people to stop stocking gold as you cannot reinvest it when it stays in your house.

When Keating took over I was 7 so obviously pretty young.

What did Hawke do? Again I don't know much but from my understanding he was a Union leader first, socialist, was the PM when Australia "had the recession we had to have", was the PM when rates were 18% and was PM during one of the most corrupt times in Australia history.
He set up the Medicare scheme. Set up the superannuation scheme. Opened Australia up to trade with a lot more of the world.

He also did quite a lot for education. A number of universities were set up during his time in power. And from childcare to school completion we saw improvement in the education standards.

He also had some impact on tax reform.

I'm not an expert on this though. Probably some articles around that give a good summary by now.

Pretty sad.. That's why I want to see the liberals out of government, their goal is to help the wealthy become wealthier ,the only thing stopping the rest of us from eating dirt soup in the future will be welfare

Socialism doesn't work either and will never work.

A lot of Humans are greedy by nature and cannot be limited to what they can have even the people who champion the cause of the poor, some of those people are the worst of the worst.

It's quite horrible. I remember reading a story a couple of years ago about a pregnant lower caste woman who was executed because she accidentally touched the bucket of an upper caste woman.

It came in 1992 under Keating.

But was in the 1991 budget under Hawke.

Keating gets the credit because it wasn't law until it was passed in parliament.

#fakenews

upper caste women do not carry buckets with them. The lower casts and untouchables do it for them.
