Fitness wins you games you don’t deserve. So many times in the past couple seasons we have been beaten by small margins or in the last 10 of a game. With an ordinary bunch to pick from. we could have made the 8 in theory the last 2 seasons if we were better prepared physically alone IMO. You could add to that a half or hooker that could actually control the game.

I think one of the biggest things you forgot is true grit and heart
Yep true grit, determination, heart, but youv'e got to have momentem during the game it shifts to each team, youv'e got to have the skill to score when momentem shifts your way. So many times during the game when it shifts to us we dont have the skill in the halves to use it,to many bad options with the ball ,eg,tolman on the 4th breaking down the play

I feel a number of factors are involved in a team winning a premiership.
Fitness YES that is one.
Defence which is linked with attitude.
Minimal injuries.
No stupid suspensions
Minimal interference from origin.
50/50 calls going your way at crucial moments. A perfect example of that is what happened to the Raiders in the 2019 Grand Final
Discipline on the field.
No stupid stuff off the field that will attract the attention of the press and destabilise the team. EG the recent situation with Elliott.
Undoubtedly there is more that I can't think of at present.

Yah all the ball skills come so much easier with fitness to and less mistakes

Melbourne always come out of the gates at the beginning of a season on a mission. There is no settling into the season for them, they are on fire from round 1 and dont let up.
Penrith looked physically fit and very quick last year.
Not surprising who played in the GF.

And ........... the Chooks had the hardest pre season ever according to some players and then Robinson flogged them some more in the Covid break. Which resulted in them fading before the finals even started.

Penrith had a lot of young players who handle the physical load better and recover faster. As they age they won't be able to handle the training work load, it will need to taper. Inevitably most will lose speed as they age and/or get injured.

As with all things it's a balance, not always easy to find.

He did, but it was obviously not enough.

You know it's fair enough if your sitting 1st or second to keep the strongest team on the park but if your side has solidified a top 8 spot rest the players
