Step 1 - move the Tigers to Perth. They don’t even need to change their name (West Tigers)

Step 2 - another Brisbane team to bring us to 18

Step 3 - bring in both a team based in Wellington, NZ AND a Pasifika team to take us to 20.

Might be time to close this thread. 20 team competition was tried way back in 1995 and brought about the Super League Wars.

The then ARL under the control of John Quayle and Ken Arthurson wanted to expand the game and there were anyone of 4 consortiums to choose from, they didn't choose just one they included ALL 4 teams, and it became a joke of competition. It was simply greed, a cash grab to milk as much out of the game as they could at the backend of their careers.

In less than 2 years the then ARL were Pearl Harboured by Super League who signed up many players on much more than they were on with the ARL and it became very ugly with many longtime friendships strained and even broken, on how the game should be run and where it was heading.

P V'Landys who is now in charge of the NRL is heading down the same path and has done something very similar with horse racing by adding more and more races for gambling addicts to do their money on and sports betting has become bigger than horse racing when it comes to wagering, something that P V'Landys has had a background in, so he'd be all for it as he's a businessman first and foremost before anything else.

Doesn't mean I'm against expansion but the only way it can be achieved is by either a relegation and promotion 2 tier competition or a conference like set up.

It's very easy, in a 20 team competition they play each other once per season, home and away then switch the next season. Leaves a gap during the season for SOO and then internationals at the start/end of the season.

Sounds simple and logical in theory but in reality there wasn’t enough depth across the NRL with 16 teams let alone 20.

it hasn’t worked previously and won’t work again unless you like blowout scores and stronger teams virtually playing reserve grade sides.

The Dolphins disproved that.

PNG could make up half a team from their Qld Cup team and recruit the rest.

The Fijians could do pretty much the same from players knocking on the door of NRL level that are currently blocked by stacked rosters above them.

It's not like Melbourne who steal players from SE Qld, they have their own sources for players that are currently untapped. Plus a lot of Fijians play Union and would switch to league if they had an NRL team and pathways to go with it..

Is it racist to not recruit caucasion guys to play in a Pasifika team?

Isn't a Pacifiker team reverse racism, bit like saying a Newton Whites. And no to both, bring back Bears.

LOL! You believe after 3 rounds when most teams are not fully MATCH fit that they're worried about being beaten by the Dolphins who have played on emotion and adrenalin being a new club under Wayne.

They have a handy side made of players from other NRL teams but lack a lot of depth and with injuries creeping in and the better teams becoming match fit and have proven combinations, the Dolphins will slowly fall away as the season progresses.

Bring in more teams, no problem, but there needs to be a two-tier system, like English Premier League football, with a 12 Team Super competition and supported by a 10 or 12 team 2nd Division competition. Either that or a conference set up.

Adding more teams has and will only dilute the talent in the competition further and ultimately make a mockery of the game.

That was proven back in 1995 when they went to 20 teams and was challenged shortly after, by the Super League Wars.
