I remember last year we played the Cowboys than Warriors away short turn around from memory. We played poor in NZ and I dont think its a stretch to say travel had an effect on our performance. NRL scheduling isnt perfect.
Different sports, different demands on the body. Look at Pele for example. Bloke isnt at a level yet were he he can handle long stints on the field.
NRL is a very demanding outdoor sport sometimes played in not ideal conditions (take last weekend as an example).

I dont think Melbourne Storm is a success. Ive lived in Melbourne for a number of years and no-one I met cared for Rugby League. Certainly got no love or support from Melbourne TV or printed media. AFL mad. But it could be completely different in WA, I really dont know.

Im not saying it cant be done or done successfully in WA
It would take time in Perth but they were reasonably well supported as the Western Reds, they pack out every Origin, Test, NRL or trial match they get there. There is a genuine market there for the NRL, probably more than there was in Melbourne and they have an actual junior league setup there..

I hope they put a team there soon and think it would be a success..

You have teams in New York and L.A in every American sporting competition and they manage. 5 hours isn't that bad.
We have had this discussion before, NBA and NFL teams charter private jets, they don't wait around airports for hours, que up for security, squeeze into economy seats and put up with us plebs. They simply walk out after the game onto the team bus to the airport, on the plain and often wheels up less than ~30 minutes after the whistle blows. If the NRL wants Perth, PNG, Fiji, Samoa etc teams then private jet charters for the travelling teams have to be in place. It also needs to be Salary and Football Staff Cap exempt, it's not like travelling is an option even now.

We should already have our own chartered jet for Melbourne, Cowboys, Warriors, Donkeys, Titans and Dolphins away games.

As I said, AFL, NBL, A-League and Cricket teams all have teams in Perth. Travel is not an issue for those leagues. It wouldn't be for the NRL either

Talks of an eventual 20 team comp, who do you want to see in the comp?
Well that hasn’t proven a good idea in the past.

I don’t even like a 17 team competition but that doesn’t mean I’m against expansion.

Into the future they should consider either a conference set up or relegation and promotion competition.

I’d prefer a 14 team first division comp. Don’t have enough talent for 20 teams.

Travel is still travel. AFL is not a contact sport though. Far from it. Nor is basketball. They're not the same physical impact of League obviously but still very physical sports that takes a toll on bodies in different ways.

The main reason for charter flights is to increase the time available for recovery, get to home base to refresh and rehab faster, using the specialist equipment we have.

I don't disagree with the league needing to get charters eventually.. I'm just saying the time or distance to Perth shouldn't be an issue regarding them getting a team.

Their time zone would be a massive benefit to the league as it creates more flexibility for 9 and Fox

We have needed charter flights for teams for years, maybe Perth or Fiji will be the catalist.

In principle, a second NZ team should be explored but I am worried that the Warriors have not been the success that they should have been considering they should have first pick of NZ talent

I like a Perth based team, especially with the infrastructure already there

P.S. Can we kick out the Eels?

What's the point of partnering with the bears if the aim of the Pacific team is to create pathways for the Pacific Island players. Right now there is not one single NRL player that was born and developed in the Pacific. RU players don't count.

The cost of developing players over a wide geographical space would be expensive. Not to mention the cost of telecasting games over there.
Not to mention the okaying pool is tiny and ppl poor as.

Newcastle put the kibosh on that every single time it's raised.
