Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs forward Adam Elliott has been nominated for the 2019 Ken Stephen Medal for his contribution to the local community.

Elliott joins James Tedesco, Josh Addo-Carr, Gavin Cooper, Connor Watson and Sia Soliola as some of the game’s biggest names to be nominated by their clubs for the 2019 Ken Stephen Medal.

The Ken Stephen Medal recognises the efforts of an NRL player who has not only achieved on the field, but has committed time off the field to community projects.

This year is the 31st instance that the Ken Stephen Medal has been awarded, with a host of worthy recipients receiving this prestigious award since Wayne Pearce won the inaugural medal in 1988, including Ryan James, Joel Thompson, Jonathan Thurston and Nathan Hindmarsh.

The 2019 Ken Stephen Medallist will be announced during Grand Final week, with voting now open on NRL.com providing fans the opportunity to select the nominee they feel deserves to be a finalist. The player with the highest number of votes will be included as one of four finalists announced next month.

The 2019 Ken Stephen Medal is proudly supported by wealth, property and well-being consultancy, One Solutions.

Fan voting is open on the NRL’s community page on NRL.com through to 9:00am on Monday 19 August.

Couple of bad boys on the list. Wonder if it’s a way of changing players images.

If it is an off field award I don’t know how you can put forward Norman. Fair enough I am sure like every player he does his bit for the community. And nrl is great at community programs.

But Elliot getting it a year after the mad Monday thing. And Corey Norman after the things he had been involved with in the past. Just sort of diminished the values of the award. Unless it is an award to be used as a redemption story.

Here's something

Corey Norman stood in the streets of Sydney's Martin Place on Tuesday night and cheerfully handed out clothing to the homeless.

The maligned NRL talent wasn't looking for publicity or social media plaudits. Nor was he told to be there by his club.

Norman simply wanted to help.

The St George Illawarra recruit has been quietly assisting the Pass It On Clothing & Co charity since midway through last year.

Norman's apparel business YKTR, which he co-owns with former Cronulla hooker James Segeyaro and retired player Isaac John, is one of many brands that provides garments for those in need.

Pass It On hosts three giveaway events a week - one each in Parramatta, Martin Place and Gosford - where between 700 and 900 items are gifted.

Former NSW and Australian representative Michael Buettner runs the Gosford session.

Norman is present at least once a month at either the Sydney CBD or Parramatta.

Segeyaro and leading referee Matt Cecchin also regularly lend a hand, while ex-NRL players Cameron King and Jackson Hastings have contributed in the past.

It's a humbling experience for the rugby league identities, says Chris Vagg, a former NRL employee who co-founded Pass It On in 2016.

"When you go into that space, it changes your dynamic," Vagg tells Sporting News Australia.

"It's a great tool for mentoring, especially with guys who may have had some troubles early in their careers.

"It really reinforces how lucky they are to be doing what they're doing."

These are good but the NRL needs to do a better job spreading some of the stories surrounding these players. CNK feels like the NRL good guy atm based off social media and what not, yet he isn't even nominated.

His background is Indigenous Australian i'm sure this plays a big part in certain things that happen around him in and around the club and nrl.

surprised he got nominated again, maybe it shows how little the club does in the community these days. Elliott talks the talk these days in regards to autism and looks the part because of his brother but he really doesn't actually do a lot from what i have heard. The country boy has gotten a big head these days and loves the Sydney lifestyle
