Staying at the Eels according to this report. Would seem odd though if what Gould says is right and we haven't even made an offer yet

Mahoney reportedly makes contract decision
Will he stay or will he go?

Parramatta Eels' star hooker Reed Mahoney has reportedly made a decision on where he will be playing from 2023 and beyond.
Mahoney's future has been one which has come under plenty of speculation in recent months, with the star who was due to make a Queensland Origin debut in 2022 before injury derailed him off-contract at the end of 2022.
He was one of 18 Eels' players who didn't have a secure future from 2023 and beyond. That number has now dropped to 16, with prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard re-signing with the club, and second-rower Marata Niukore linking up with the Warriors on a mega deal which was confirmed this morning.
Mahoney's future only had new storylines added to the rumour mill earlier this week when he was spotted dining at Canterbury Leagues Club with his manager as well as Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett and general manager Phil Gould.

While Canterbury are desperate for a starting number nine, there have also been reports the Brisbane Broncos and Dolphins were keen on Mahoney.
Given the Eels' worryingly bad salary cap situation, it had appeared unlikely the men in blue and gold were going to be able to hang onto Mahoney, but now, according to Wacko's Whispers for The Daily Telegraph, Mahoney will stay put in Western Sydney.

Reports suggested yesterday the offer Parramatta could put on the table would be substantially less than the one the Bulldogs, Broncos or Dolphins could provide, however, in a rare case of player loyalty, Mahoney is set to stay in Brad Arthur's side.
The Eels will need to move fast, with all off-contract players now able to negotiate with other clubs, however, Mahoney is a pivotal part of their team.
He was one of the most-missed players during the finals series of 2021, and while Ray Stone did an admirable job filling in, it's arguable Parramatta could have gone further into the finals had Mahoney been fit.
It's understood the Eels will also make Clinton Gutherson's contract a matter of urgency, with the club captain said to be weighing up his options.
Parramatta's late start to re-negotiating contracts is thought to have been caused by long delays in re-signing coach Brad Arthur beyond the end of 2022, with speculation mounting around the coaches future this season.
Never thought he would join us,i know his dad personally and he's a mad eels fan has been always as was reedy although he did have a soft spot for the dogs growing up,as he is a beerwah bulldogs juniour from the sunshine coast ,he was never leaving parra ,especially since we shit on him with our offer to keep him here was an insult as far as his dads concerned, but money talks i supose, but at the end of the day its where your most happy thats where he'll play his best footy ,and his dad said he's happy with brad Aurthurs coaching ,he gets on with him really well

So your opinion from knowing his dad personally is he won’t be here? Or you have no idea on it other than your opinion?

Not being smart so don’t misread it, genuinely curious on your view.
When was last convo. It sound similar to what I thought without knowing anything though remain hopeful we land him or Brandon ad we badly need 1.

If this was you reading between lines of convos but nothing based on a recent convo things could have changed dramatically. E.g the meeting with us etc

Even if he's happy at Parra money talks and the $200K offer, plus the extra year, is a huge factor. I can see him staying at Parra for slightly less money, say $50K a year less, but not $200K a year. It's too much to knock back especially when your career is short lived

Also, in terms of us letting him go, that was the old administration so I'm sure Gus and JK are reminding him of that

His old man obviously wants him to stay at Parra but hopefully Gus and Baz have worked their magic and we've got him. It'd be a huge boost for the club

For an extra $200k a year I wouldn’t give a shit who the coach is or who my old man supported

His dad has said that reedy makes his own calls on his career ,dont worry i want him to come to the dogs as much as anyone ,just cant see it from the way i read it and my opinion only,it would take a massive offer over what parra offers him the land the deal, his dad has not told me directly what he is going to do but did say the dogs low balled him on their offer compared to what parra got him for, even though it was a base player contract it was way less for a young bloke at the time to accept and was happy at parra thats it all i know

If we miss out on Reed Mahoney we should try and sign Reed Rothchild. With Elliott and Napa gone someone needs to fill the pornstar quota.

For the Eels to extend their contract deadline on Mahoney, Gutherson & Paulo it definitely implies they are not confident in retaining all of them. I think if it is true that we are offering $650k per season over a 4 year deal we would have a very high chance of getting the deal done. We are building a very strong roster and have improved our leadership off the field as well. I am only speculating but I would imagine that would be enticing for players along with the pay packet on offer for them to join us. Shaun Johnson himself admitted it was Phil Gould who convinced him to join the Warriors when he was still there. I have a good feeling about our chances of getting Mahoney with Phil Gould in charge. He rarely misses out on players he wants.
