Canterbury need Kieran Foran to make an immediate impact on his return next week as they try to fix their worst start to a season in attack in 56 years.

The Bulldogs have scored just 24 points across their opening three games, the least they have notched up to start the year since 1964.

Foran is expected to return from a shoulder and hamstring injury against St George Illawarra next week, as both sides search for their first win of the season.

It will be a welcome return for a Bulldogs side who have made the most errors in the NRL and are ranked in the bottom two for points, tries, run metres, line breaks, tackle busts and offloads.

“He will help. He will lift the players. Just that experience he brings will help,” coach Dean Pay said.

“We all need to do a better job than what we are doing.

“Everyone who is involved with what we do when we get in our good ball.

“We seem to be a little lost and frantic with what we are doing. And that causes errors.”

The Bulldogs routinely blew chances early in Sunday night’s loss to Manly.

They coughed up possession while attacking the Sea Eagles’ line four times in the first 20 minutes, frustrating coach Pay.

It came after Pay switched his halves combination from the opening two rounds, dropping Brandon Wakeham for Jack Cogger.

Foran had trained at five-eighth for the majority of the return from the coronavirus shutdown before tweaking a hamstring, but Pay insisted that didn’t warrant the attacking problems.

“It’s no excuse, we should be better than that,” Pay said.

“We need to be better again next week with the errors we make when we do get down the field.

“We’ve got to find some more patience in what we are doing and getting through out sets.

“Because we’re not building any pressure at all.”

CANTERBURY’S ATTACKING WOES: Points: 24 (15th) Tries: 4 (=14th) Average run metres: 1235 (15th) Linebreaks: 6 (15th) Tackle busts: 50 (16th) Offloads: 15 (16th) Completion rate: 68 per cent (15th) Errors: 45 (16th) (Fox Sports Lab)

We need more than Foran to get us out of this mess. Meh he will just get hurt after 1 game and be on the sidelines for a long time as usual.

Listening to Pay trying to talk tactics postgame is cringeworthy. He makes Paul Langmack sound like Jack Gibson.

Foran is not a miracle worker.... Pay needs to give us a chance to win by selecting players in their best positions and NOT the positions they prefer to play.

Yeah let's rely on someone who is always injured and can't be relied upon. Makes heaps of sense, let's call that plan A, B, C etc etc

Fozzy can’t pull us out of this slump, he may help a little and create a few more options, but end of the day we are in serious trouble..

Definitely players to keep, but big clean out needed..!!

Such a key player for us, if he plays and is 80 per cent fit he can be the difference between winning and losing a game, a link man to our key senior men whom have been stalwarts at this great club.

Time to put faith in some young guns mr Pay .Bailey ono ,Averillo ,Wakeham ,Harper .
Lets get some youth and enthusiasm injected into this lacklustre speed hump of a side you pick week in week out .
Time for Tolman to make way ,Napa needs a demotion for a wake up call ,Remis to wing .Make some gutsy calls .
We aint got nothing to loose except your job in which you should be putting club first and taking a risk instead of trying to play safe to keep it .

I have to give credit to Pay. He consistently says the same bullshit in interviews. We have to get better. We are better than this.
Are we though? In all your time there has been no improvement. To win at the ass end of the season doesn't mean shit Pay

I'll give him a crumb of credit if he drops princess and starts Wakeham and Avo.

He is right, it's just that we can't get better and neither can he. The team is just plain untalented and the Coach is out of depth. It would appear the Board are the same.

So in conclusion, we have a reserve grade team being coached by a new Coach with no answers and can't coach attack, a Board who is new and can't seem to convince or sign any marquee players to get us out of it......what did I miss?

Pay is sweating on Foran to save his arse.

Out of depth coach, we need a reset now. Give Georgalis a run until the end of the season and see what he can do.

It’s not the 56 year low that hurts, it’s the fact it’s lower than last year and the year before
