He's a smart operator, he would've secured a deal before he went public. Making it out as Manly not doing enough to re-sign him so fans don't see him as turning his back on the club and keeping his legacy in tact. I've got my Money on the Roosters, theyseemto be really quiet. Uncle Nick wants to win a premiership before he retires and DCE would be the perfect partner for young Sam Walker. They will use the Brandon Smith money.

yep I'm sure he,has, already sorted out,a,deal with the riosters

We would be crazy to not make an offer. Sexton isnt going to win us a comp no matter what im afraid, and Woods isnt ready.

So even if DCE doeant pan out (if we sign) hes still a million miles better than Sexton to learn from for Woods.

Peter Peters was saying that he is managed by the same manager as Teddy and the hooker they bought from NQ for next year. All roads lead to Bondi, however stranger things have happened.

Say we have the money and spot it doesn't mean anything in the end, he chooses where he plays.

People need to relax and let this pan out because hype it up enough and you're just going to be disappointed if things don't work out.

If DCE actually wants to be here, I would be all for signing him on for 3 seasons, at ~$900k a season. Or 2 seasons at ~$1.1m a season with a deal to join our coaching set up afterwards for a few years. There is absolutely no question he is worth it, his body doesn't appear to be done, his mind certainly isn't. Some players simply have longevity, with Cam Smith being the perfect example. Go back a bit further and you have our own Baa who played top grade Rugby League for 17 seasons. When DCE finishes this season he will have done so for 15 seasons. Two more seasons looks entirely possible.

So far as his record at Manly is concerned, I'd suggest that there are a range of factors at play. Firstly, he has won a premiership with them, in his first season (2011), and also reached the GF in 2013. Those successes came before the big contract signing in 2015. Since then Manly have struggled to truly put a quality team around their quality HB, the first signs of this was when Glenn Stewart wasn't re-signed because they couldn't afford him, and the effect of this during DCE's 8 year $10m contract is apparent, Manly finished 13th, 6th, 15th, 6th, 13th, 4th, 11th, 12th. They bounced around the table like a yoyo, only playing finals 3 times. In 2016 the cap was $6.8m, which means DCE alone took up somewhere between 1/5 and 1/6 of Manly's cap. In 2026 the cap will be $11.7m, so if he is paid ~$1m it will be about 1/12 of the cap. No doubt at the start of his $10m contract a young DCE was confident that he could be THAT player, but he has to admit, looking back, that it takes a team to win the premiership.

I'd additionally suggest that as romantic as it may be to be a one club player, for creatives like halves and fullbacks, playing under different systems is often advantageous. DCE is one of the best halfbacks of the modern era, perhaps the best, but the only times we've gotten to see him outside the Manly system is when he plays for QLD or Aus. The CC coached Bulldogs are playing a very different style to Manly of the last 10 years, and it would be an interesting challenge for him to create within our structures, one that I think he would rise to.

I just don't think he will want to come here.

So I was leaning towards no when this first broke, however I acknowledge I do not know everything that is going on and I accept that if Gus looks at all the angles and believes the risk is worth the reward then I will support the decision.

Not signing DCE does not mean that we don't want to win a premiership; it's more that the chance of a premiership next year is not enough to risk the club's future direction. You might think it would have no effect or even help, but unless you are Phil Gould or CC, you wouldn't know.

Simply put, ;) ... we in this forum tend to oversimplify, leading to misunderstandings and incorrect decisions. I am glad that we have someone like Gus who will understand all these factors at play and make the decision. That does not guarantee he will not make a mistake, but he will make fewer mistakes than we.

If SARGE ASSASSIN is all for it then I'm onboard
IN GUS WE TRUST
It seems logical. Our premiership windows opens instantly, get a year or 2 out of him until our pups make grade and also he might be the one to unlock Burton.

PS doesn't mean I like the giraffe now, if he wins us a GF I may like him a bit lol

If we don't make an offer to DCE we're also saying we don't want to win a premiership. The worst player in our team is our 7, would be one of the biggest upgrades in the NRL you could possibly do bringing in a top 3 halfback. We also already have the succession plan with Mitchell Woods.
But if we sign Galvin then we can win premierships right?

What's the risk?

There is daylight between him and Sexton.

only risk I see is that dce isn't in a rush to make decision and we most likely wont know what he'll be doing until September/October.

say we let sexton go and we go all in for dce and he ends up retiring or goes to another club then we'll be screwed with no hb with first grade experience for next year

Starting to warm to the idea. Sign him and we are a genuine premiership chance for the next two years. I don't think we are that chance with Sexton as much as I like him.

Good point, but I'm thinking he wouldn't of made it public if he hasn't lined up another gig somewhere else.

The latest chatter on the radio is they say if he signs with us it will be from this year because we released Sutton and haven't replaced his top 30 spot.

People playing detective IMO

doubt he'll be leaving manly this season unless there's a clear rift between dce and the coach/management

The fact that he isn't injuries prone makes him an attractive option even at 37 years of age,
Cameron Smith was a great example of durability and played in the forwards !
Did you know, at some point in time the situation was so toxic at Womanly, I was told then by a prominent figure that our club was waiting to see how it pans out witch could result in DCE or Foran coming to us,
The result, Foran ended at the slimy eels and DCE stayed put, eventually Hitler signed wheelchair bound Foran :rage:

I reckon both he and Themly are lying and the true story will come out after he makes his move.
