This is were the NRL are letting the game down. Take it out of the clubs hands and make the players well aware of the rules.

No strikes.
You stuff up, you get charged, you sit out.
You get convicted/sentenced, you have contract torn up. You sit out punishment/prison, NRL can reevaluate.

You stuff up like this (not commit a crime perse), and you get investigated. If it's found you have acted up... a months holiday from the game. Second time 3 months, third time contract cancelled.

You raise an interesting issue on Clubs v the NRL handling things. I can see both sides of this.

The league does need to have a consistent face, and for the image of the game, show that this type of shit isn't tolerated.

But at the same time, the Club is his employer, and whose image is also affected.

I think both should have the right to discipline him, but I know it gets messy.

As a Chartered Accountant, if I did something stupid, even outside work, if I was working for someone, they would have the ability to fire me. Likewise, my professional body could also sanction me.

Yeah good one James. Another opportunity for redemption. Will probably be saved due to the complainant being ' reluctant' to officially complain........and the fact that the club was informed by the media.....

NRL officials and Brisbane are investigating claims troubled Broncos centre James Roberts forcefully pulled a young woman by her hair at a Gold Coast nightclub.

The NRL integrity unit was informed of the allegations on Monday night, before they were revealed by News Corp Australia publications on Tuesday morning.

It's reported Roberts allegedly grabbed the 23-year-old woman from behind early on Sunday night, causing pain to her neck before he was removed from the premises.

'Both the NRL and the club are making enquiries into the matter,' an NRL spokesman told AAP.

'Because he's had previous breaches it makes it more important that we look at it ourselves.'

The 23-year-old complainant is reportedly reluctant to make an official complaint and Queensland police confirmed to AAP on Tuesday morning none had been lodged.

She described the alleged hair-pulling as forceful.

'He came up from behind me and pulled my hair quite hard and yanked my head back,' she told News Corp.

'I had a sore neck all day yesterday.'

Broncos chief executive Paul White said the club had also not received a complaint and was not made aware of the alleged incident until informed by the media.

'I immediately notified the NRL integrity unit and they have subsequently commenced their inquiries,' White said in a statement.

'The club supports these enquiries being conducted independently and expediently, will offer any assistance and support required and will only make further comment once the process has been completed.'

The incident is the latest in a long line of controversies to have marred the 23 -year-old Roberts' career.

He was fined $20,000 by the Broncos last year following allegations he abused a female staff member in a drunken incident at the Normanby Hotel in Brisbane when he was refused service.

He checked into a rehabilitation facility in Thailand at the end of the NRL season.

Before arriving at Brisbane, Roberts was released by South Sydney in 2012 after contract breaches, and then suffered the same fate at Penrith when a number of behavioural issues allegedly culminated in him smashing a taxi window in 2014.

He was thrown a lifeline by Gold Coast later that season and became one of the Titans' best players, before a contracting error on the club's behalf saw him depart for Brisbane last year.

The latest news comes just a day after his former Titans teammate, David Mead, claimed he had seen a more mature Roberts during his own shift to the Broncos.

'I've noticed an improvement in him as a person,' Mead said on Monday.

'Obviously, he's got a lot of good people around him here at the Broncos and he's very well looked after.'

On the radio, a lot of people were making a big deal about the fact he was on his last chance. If there is any truth to this story, I think he will have to go.

At 23, he will (deservedly) be on the scrapheap, and have to get a real job on 1/10 of what he making playing footy. What a dropkick.

It is well and truly time that these players learn that just because they have talent they are not immune to the letter of the law.....time to start living in the ' real world'
In saying that though, Barba is working as a labourer on a worksite reportedly earning a 1000 bucks a week. Wish my hubby's employer could do that for him cash wise.

Agree with you, but as always NRL clubs cannot ever see beyond the ability of a player and if he is good enough and worth enough to the team many indiscretions are overlooked or punished with the force of a limp celery stick. Only when others start to make a big deal of things do they get acted upon. Those with lesser talent tend to get the flick a lot quicker.

Jarryd Mullin steroids.. They are coming thick n fast now.. Whos next?

Surely the Auckland 9s will flush out some bad behaviour..

Maybe Jarryd Hayne? nothing to impact his career but just something embarrassing. Like a bag snatcher runs past hayne at a cafe and hayne gives chase, trys to tackle him and is goose stepped and left flat footed with the thief bolting away.

So over James Roberts & all the shit he does.

He has had so many chances & the fuckwit still fucks up.

Hope the Broncos kick him to the curb if the latest indiscretion is proven.

Maybe the Broncos should just sack him to make the others realise that bad behaviour won't be tolerated.

Wests Tigers Media

Wests Tigers have today been made aware that a player has been charged by the NSW Police for drug possession.

Kyle Lovett was charged with possession of a small quantity of a prohibited substance on 23 December, 2016 and will face court on 1 February, 2017.

Wests Tigers Club officials were only made aware of the matter by Lovett today.

Upon learning of Lovett's charge Wests Tigers immediately alerted the NRL Integrity Unity this morning and the two parties are currently working together on the matter.

Wests Tigers are incredibly disappointed with Lovett and do not in any way condone his behaviour.

Wests Tigers ensure that all players and staff receive the highest level of education in relation to drugs. The Club takes the welfare and education of its players and very seriously with the Wests Tigers Wellbeing and Education department ranked second in the NRL in 2016.

Wests Tigers will be making no further comment until the matter is resolved, both with the NSW Police and the NRL Integrity Unit.

Here comes another one.....another dickhead to join the long list at the club including Auva'a, Norman, Edwards, Jennings, Pritchard,Radradra,

http://www.skynewssport.com.au/rugbyleague-news-display/terepo-stood-down-over-driving-offence/10243

Peni Terepo's NRL future at Parramatta is under a cloud, with the prop stood down after being convicted of careless driving in New Zealand.

The Eels on Friday also banned Terepo from participating in next week's Auckland Nines after only learning of last month's incident via New Zealand media reports on Friday.

'The club is extremely disappointed with Peni's behaviour and we regard what's taken place as extremely serious,' Eels boss Bernie Gurr said.

'Upon learning of Peni's conviction, we have immediately alerted the NRL integrity unit this morning and emphasised that no club official was aware of this incident.

'Peni has been stood down from all official club duties, effective immediately, and will also not be considered for selection in our Auckland Nines squad.'

The NZ Herald on Friday reported that Terepo, 25, had pleaded guilty to careless driving and refusing to give an alcohol test after a car crash in central Auckland.

The community magistrate said Terepo was 'significantly intoxicated'.

'It was some type of accident; police noted you did significant damage to your car and were thrown into the windscreen. It sounds like you were very lucky you weren't more hurt,' the magistrate said.

Terepo was fined $500, ordered to pay $130 in court costs, and placed on a seven-month driving ban.

His future is likely to be decided once Eels officials meet Terepo following his arrival next week from New Zealand.

The revelations are the latest in a horror 12 months for Parramatta, including the salary-cap scandal and star Corey Norman's eight-game suspension for a sex video.
