Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, makes history with 35-ball IPL century for Rajasthan
Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest centurion in men’s Twenty20 cricket after scoring 101 off 38 balls in the eight-wicket win over Gujarat Titanswww.theguardian.com
Make no mistake, playing at that level at 14 years of age is a great achievement let alone scoring a century. But there is a however.
From what I saw, he only got 1 decent ball, a yorker from which he was dismissed. All the rest were either far too short or far too full or really wide. He also had a significant amount of luck with plenty of skied balls going over the top of where slips would be. You still have to capitalise on those balls & do it ball after ball, which he did. Add the factor that kids today don't have the fear of getting out for nothing anymore; Konstas showed us that.
He has played 5 first class games & averages 10, with a highest score of 41.
6 list A games averaging 22 with a HS of 71.
5 T20s at 32.80 & a (outstanding) strike rate of 210, but early days. The century wasn't on debut; it was his first century. He had previously scored 18, 34,16 & then 101 & now a second ball duck.
He obviously has a good eye & some talent & at a young age, but time will tell; it may have been a lucky innings. Will he be able to smash good bowling?
