Paul Green is set to become the third coach to lose his job this year, following on from Stephen Kearney at the Warriors and Dean Pay at the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Paul Green is on the verge of parting company with the North Queensland Cowboys.

The club is expected to announce to make an announcement on his future this afternoon.

He is the third coach to lose his job this year, following on from Stephen Kearney at the Warriors and Dean Pay at the Canterbury Bulldogs.

The Cowboys have won just three from 10 games this year.

Green has won a premiership and made two grand final at the club but has missed the semi-finals the last two years, finishing 13th and 14th.

No decision has been made on his replacement, although there is talk the club is keen on Anthony Griffin taking over.

There had been reports Green had lost support from some senior players at the club in recent times.

Cowboys assistants Josh Hannay and David Tangata-Toa are expected to take over until the end of the season.

Hannay has been part of the Queensland Origin coaching set-up in recent years, while Tangata-Toa came through coaching the junior ranks at Penrith before moving north to the Cowboys.

It was only a matter of time he was stuck in 2015 using a block play multiple times every set. He might be ok with some time out of the game and freshening up because he’s really stale.

It has now happened.......There’s a lot of joy amongst us Cowboys Supporters.

Josh Hannay (another ex-Cowboy) has now taken the reigns.

As I called a few weeks ago, it will not surprise me if Shitbold gets pushed out of the Donkeys for PG.

I'm waiting on the media to talk about how Green was hard done by, had too many injuries to perform etc etc

Anyone else reckon being a coach would be alright?

By getting ‘sacked’ these guys are effectively being paid out their contracts.

not a bad gig imo

Yeah how good. then find themselves assistant coach elsewhere on a couple hundred thousand a year + getting paid out their coaches salary lol

With all the focus on Pay and Seibold, this sort of came out of the blue.

He'd be good at the Warriors.

Green was a good coach, just became stale at the Cowboys.

Have the Warriors ever had a coach previously who even knew what NRL Premiership success looked like?

Waiting for a James Hooper special to highlight how disgusting the cowboys treated their first premiership winning coach!

Good coach, needs a new challenge, I don't think the Cowboys invested in the right players. Will probably end up as an assistant coach for the next few years.

It's about time... Of course the media won't rip into the Cowboys for firing a Premiership winning coach... Whereas they make the Dogs out to be lowlifes for firing a wooden spoon coach.

Just read an article linking available coaches to the role and of course Pay's name came up.

Best they could say about him was:
"he'd provide a bit of defensive resolve"

Take the punt cows ;)

I suspect that numerous clubs were waiting to see if we released Pay before acting on their own coaches. The cowboys and Warriors are no doubt in a bidding war right now to get him and Seibolf will be sacked soon and it will be a three way battle for his services.
