24,000 children die in Africa everyday due to hunger

Over 1,000,000 people die every year in South America due to mosquito bites.

No one makes a big deal about these.
True....it's a case of out of sight, out of mind with a lot of people, sadly. The reason Coronavirus is such a big concern around the world is because it has potential to go global and has already spread to many countries.

Agree but this is a bigger issue that has international consequences and looks like it can't be stopped.

International media seems to be downplaying this tragedy like the Africa & Sth American tragedies.

Europe is going ape shit at the moment.

I wonder if they'll call a pandemic soon and if any research from the "Corrupted Blood" incident will be used?

Weren’t they 3 students from Kerala, who studied in Wuhan? And now have been cleared?
There was nearly 2,000 suspect cases in India, some of which are still being tested, and 3 of those cases were confirmed to be Coronavirus. The 3 involved are under house quarantine.

There is also a bunch of Indian nationals that were on the Japanese cruise that have confirmed cases of the virus but India won't let them return home.

Probably still be a few months until it reaches that but the WHO made a statement this morning saying that people need to be prepared for it to reach Pandemic stage.

They do. They have been making a big deal of it for decades. There's masses of money that's going into malaria research and charity works.

The difference with this is that it's a new disease that's quickly spreading to every corner of the earth. While it doesn't have a massive kill rate, it is killing people, authorities can't contain it, and any vaccine is at least 3-5 years away from mass production.

Yep. Even in China it's only a small percentage of the population. The main fear is two parts:

1) it could mutate before it's stopped

2) the virus is acting different than expected. The virus has been sequenced and confirmed that it hasn't mutated, but there's still long asymptomatic cases in certain people

I wonder how much productivity will be lost with everyone working from home?

It could be worse. Rumor has it that in the town "Bogan" siblings marry each other.

Incest, a game the whole family can play together. If it was an Olympic event all medalists would come from QLD.

Iran had reported 12 deaths from 61 cases. Either they are lying about the total number of cases or for some reason, the virus in Iran has a 20% death rate. More likely the Iranian government are lying.

Have you read anything about the living conditions of those contracting this virus? I've tried to find some demographics info on this but so far been unable.

Well that's the other thing. We consider that no Australians have died from this and it's likely that their receiving world class treatment - things those living in poorer countries do not have the luxury of affording.
