Have a mate who is completely offgrid. House has never been serviced by electricity providers. Uses solar and wind. Granted he lives 1000 feet above sea level so he would have a truck tonne more wind energy than most.

Had two lightning strikes on his wind turbine that sits about 20 metres off the ground the 1st of which blew his washing machine to pieces and continued to rip apart the first foot and half of plumbing. Has since taken measures to route and ground the lightning.

His initial setup used car 10 or 12 car batteries for storage which he has now upgraded.

Guy has a stay at home wife and 2 kids so his energy use would be moderate.
Good story for those who can achieve it.
Assume apart from the lightning grounder there’s safety switches for any leak from batteries etc?

Friends just bought a Tesla and re-charge from home solar no problem. They love it.

Dont know the specifics but he's been running this system for nearly 10 years with the only problem being the couple of lightning strikes.
((Found pieces of his wind turbine up to 100 metres away lol))
Built a new bathroom ensuite onto his house last year and used the water heater to heat the floors. Very clever chap.

Has inverters and controllers for combining the wind and solar. Cant tell you much more than that. Except that he doesnt use car batteries anymore but he never had a problem with it.

Yep. Limited resources. Increased population means increased pollution. Basic supply and demand.

We need a solution....

You guys go first. Lead by example. If we end up liking it we’ll follow. If not… we’ll youre putting into practise what you people preach. We all win that way. You control your people’s population, and we rednecks (all non abiding twitter science citizens/races included under this) will stay as cave men not teaching our kids that they’re potentially harming the environment by just being born.

New analysis by Climate Action Tracker shows the world is on track for 2.7 degrees of warming this century if nations stick to their current climate policies, 2.4 degrees if 2030 goals are met or 2.1 degrees if 2050 targets are met. The report emphasises the failure of many governments to match their pledges with near-term actions, warning: “There is a massive credibility, action and commitment gap that casts a long and dark shadow of doubt over the net-zero goals put forward.”

Announcing a $1 billion fund for low-emissions technologies, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said: “We believe climate change will ultimately be solved by ‘can do’ capitalism, not ‘don’t do’ governments seeking to control people’s lives and tell them what to do.” Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese urged voters not to get “sucked into this nonsense argument about choice and mandates … people who are born today won’t have a choice of buying a petrol vehicle because no one will be making them.”

Opinion: Drivers won’t choose electric cars if they can’t afford them, says the Grattan Institute’s Lachlan Fox.

TALKING POINTS
The US and China will work together on emissions reductions and an accelerated phase-out of unabated coal, however timelines were not listed.
China and the US have also reached consensus over 2030 emissions targets.
The surprise announcement is a dramatic boost to the ongoing negotiations between nations at COP26.
