Opinion China's growing influence in the Pacific region

As we know, China is loaded with foreign reserves and using that to spread their influence all over the world by building infrastructure and financing under the development strategy that they call "Belt and Road initiative".
Basically they give out loans to poor countries who can't repay and then they claim their land or whatever they built as collateral. It's a debt trap.
There are whispers that they are keen on building a naval base somewhere in the Pacific which traditionally has been the US playground.

I'm from PNG but I'm keen to get your views. You reckon the USA and Australia is gonna step up and halt China's Geopolitical ambitions ?especially in the Pacific? Is your PM smart enough?
Ours is already in the bed with the Chinese.

China manufactures a shitload of stuff.
USA is one of the largest consumers of Chinese made goods.

There won't be a war between the usa & china. The us has a horrible track record against communist regimes in asia anyway, couldn't defeat the north koreans & chinese in the 50's, couldn't defeat a bunch of farmers running around at night in black pajamas in vietnam, they couldn't defeat a present day china that is far more powerful now than they have been for a very long time. Neither side would want an armed conflict.

Because of China there's Africans in Africa who speak Mandarin.

I was thinking about learning Mandarin.
