Kieran Foran’s rugby league career may be over, with the Bulldogs secretly attempting to retire the former superstar halfback on medical grounds.

Foran is currently sidelined for at least a month with a toe injury, and has also been carrying a neck-shoulder problem.

The former Kiwi Test ace was signed by former Bulldogs coach Des Hasler from the Warriors last year on a deal worth around a $1 million a season.

But Foran has failed to live up to the hype and with off-field problems also hampering him, looks a mere shadow of the player who starred for Manly and New Zealand in recent years.

If the NRL agrees to allow Foran to be retired by the club, he will still get his contract money.

If this is true it would be great for our cap management, but did think it couldn;t be pre existing injuries only new injuries or is that just for insurance payouts?
He also still saying we could lose both Mbye and Woods before this weeks game... would open up possibility for Lewis

It’s going to be an absolute shit fight trying to get him medically retired with most of his injuries already there before he signed on. He’s clearly not fit even after a massive pre season and it would be best for everyone if this happens. Maybe this is what’s holding up Woods’ departure?

He will never be fit enough for professional footy, simple as that really. Hopefully the club is doing absolutely everything to try and find a way out of his contract. I only posted this article because i liked it haha.

I think Woods is gone either way, the club just needs to get as much out of the deal as possible.

The NRL and the Bulldogs have a duty of care for all players, if the NRL doctors deem he is unfit to play they will approve, Foran wont get a contract anywhere else even after his contract is up, works for both parties. AKA Anthony Watmough,

Even if he’s fit he’s not the type of half we need. It would be awesome news if it happens aswell as getting rid of Woods then we will actually have a war chest for players.

Is it relevant??? Pre-existing or not. He has an injury which is stopping him from playing. If he agrees and medical proffesionals agree i dont see why if it was an injury 10 days or 10 years ago would matter

Wallace wasn’t signed for next year anyway. The NRL denied Brett Stewart and Steve Matai when Manly tried to do. Maybe it’s a new injury?

Yep. We would need to add additional players to make up the 30.

If it’s a pre existing injury that was known about when the player signs a contract then the NRL doesn’t allow them to be medically retired. They didn’t let Manly do it with Brett Stewart and Steve Matai and their whole contract amount came out of the cap.

Canterbury Bulldogs look to retire injured five-eighth Kieran Foran on medical grounds

But more significantly for the Bulldogs, his $1 million wage next season will not go into the salary cap, giving them some much needed breathing space.

The club has been left with massive cap problems by Hasler and former chief executive Raelene Castle, who put a host of star players on heavily back-ended contracts.

As a result, the Morris twins will move to England next season, while Moses Mbye (Tigers) and Aaron Woods (Sharks) could be gone within days.

Definitely merit in the suggestion that Mbye could be at the Tigers any day of the week now, as we're naming Lewis in our squad despite currently not being able to play.

Surely if we offload Mbye and medically retire Foran we aren’t over the cap anymore?

No we shouldn't be UNLESS somehow Fraudsler and Castle find a new way to screw us over again!??? Hopefully this would mean we can go to the market and maybe sign some good young quality players who are hungry to play for us and not come just for the money!!!!
