So there is a school on my street and this kid came flying out, not sure exactly what happened but a few teachers had this kid on the ground and a few members of the public were gathering round . This kid was going absolutely ape shit ( im pretty sure he is in a special needs class ) .
Nekk minute a detective car pulls up and cuff him he was all of about 10 but goin absolutely nuts. The mrs said its wrong and they shouldn't do it , the way I seen it they didn't really have much choice he was a danger to himself and uncontrollable.

I agree with you. For the kids safety it is sometimes necessary.

It didn't look good but this kid was loosing it. There was an ambulance pulling up when I was leaving so I guess they would of taken him to hospital for treatment.

It's a hard one cause at the same time the kid can be scared for life

there should be a recognised cuff age limit though because it shouldnt be done to very young, my best estimate would be 8 years old then you can get cuffed, maybe even 7 with a warrant

I don't think anyone could come up with a logical reason as to why a kid shouldn't be hand cuffed lol. Sure they can hurt but they will hardly cause major damage.

In extreme circumstances, cops should be able to protect themselves and the public "by any means necessary" so long as their actions are appropriate.

That is so heavy handed.. I'm sure they could have just held him down for a while till he tired himself out..

Handcuffing a kid would be extremely traumatic for them.

I think they exhausted all avenues the teachers were holding him , that wasn't working. the cops were not rough

How old/big was this kid?

Ultimately the safety of the community is the #1 priority.

Not saying this kid was but I'm sure you have dealt with an ice junkie. Sometimes holding down isn't enough.

He would of been between 10 and 12 big fat thing , while he couldn't over power and adult but was giving it ago lol.
Mr I it was im pretty sure it was a teacher that phoned the police there's 3 special needs classes at the school so the cops would of been aware of his mental state from what I seen (I didn't see the whole thing though ) I thought it was the right option or the only option till the ambulance arrived

Can they? Yep. Kids are weak.

Should they? Yep, depending on the scenario. Obviously if it's some kid who's going to hurt himself or someone else then it's best to restrain him.
