Official Bulldogs vs Tigers - Sunday 5:30pm

Imagine this kid gets a growth spurt.
Shame he didn't put in a little kick when he made that break down the sideline and instead passed it (to a Tiges player)...looks tho like he can develop his game. Heaps of potential...loved the way he cleverly avoided the covering defender near the side line on that other break he made. The 3 wingers look the goods with more development.

His dropped ball in the semi against manly cost us the game... it was a simple hit up...
Sadly - that is an unavoidable truth.
Dropped it cold!!
People blame Reed ...but that was just the biggest momentum changer.
And he has form (poor form) in that space.
He has such pace ...he's a point of difference!!
But fuck it - he needs to get down to ZERO errors per game.

That step was outrageous.

He plays to the structure and what the coach wants. Defence and minimal errors.

Believe me they are in structure at training.. He is just more comfortable and relaxed on the training paddock. I honestly think its a confident thing, reason he played yesterday too.

Happy to give him a yr extension if he wants it.. 2026 is after all our first best chance.

He was signed on 2 year contact wasn't he?
I wouldn't hate extending him a year,on face value.but I'd hate to lose 1 of our up and comers to keep him though.

Luai didn't seem to have an ego clash with Cleary.

Team Work
True but we will see his true colours this year with all the pressure on him as the poster boy, and the emerging rockstar who was threatening to leave the club last year with hardly any pressure a small injury, I think.

1 Blake Taaffe. Was solid without being outstanding IMO. Defender kicks well, inserted himself a bit in attack. Cops a lot of flak which I think is over the top. Dropped one ball & threw a poor pass. Didn't do much else worth complaining about.
22Ratu Rinakama. Wasn't perfect in defence. But looks a good attacking prospect. Seems ok with fielding kicks. Decent pace, looks pretty switched on with where he is in relation to the sideline ,(knew when to step back in field and when to hit the gas down the sideline. Couple of dropped balls and a couple of missed tackles from memory. Good prospect.
3Luke Smith. Wasn't all that noticeable to me. Others may have seen more from him. But seemed quiet to me.
4Danny Gabrael. Unselfish. Great tip on to facilitate a try. Defended pretty well. But otherwise didn't stand out with his attack IMO. Wasn't poor either.
5Jonathan Sua. Had some good touches. Also made a couple of errors.
6Drew Hutchison. I didn't notice him doing anything that exciting. But I don't get the hate thrown at him.
7Joseph O'Neill. Had some good touches. Decent ball distributor. Reasonable kicking game. Not afraid to try his hand with a sneaky run. But could improve in the selling a pass when he's going to run.
8Daniel Suluka-Fifita. Looked like he was hard to stop. Good post contact metres. Mostly landed ready for a reasonably quick play the ball in his first stint. Looked busy with defence.
9Bailey Hayward. Distributed the ball well. Didn't seem to do anything spectacular. But I don't particularly want that in a hooker. I watch some hookers wanting to be the main man and they annoy me. Ball distribution is the highest priority for a hooker. As long as they let the first receiver get the ball while moving at their pace I'm happy.
10Samuel Hughes. Impressed me with his ho forward. Like DSF he was carrying a few defenders with good PCM while he was on. Look forward to seeing more of him this year.
11Harry Hayes. Was very good and seemed like he played long minutes. Saw him get a few solid offloads away when he seemed wrapped up by three defenders. I expect we'll see a bit of him in the NRL this season again.
12Lipoi Hopoi. Solid run. Didn't disappoint aside from possibly making a couple of errors.
13Jaeman Salmon. Solid run as well. Found his front in tackles. Pretty quick playing the ball.
Interchange
14Reuben Moyle. I don't recall seeing a lot of him.
15Tom Amone. Played some decent minutes. Reasonable with post contact metres. Was looking pretty busy in defence. Seen a few that were critical if him. But he looked ok to me. Only thing that annoyed me is that he obstructed our defence on the line at one point trying to get back onside.
16Alekolasimi Jones. Not sure if he and Tia have similar hairstyles. If not I'm not sure that I know which one he was.
17Jack Todd. Looked like a pretty solid prospect. Hard to stop, can throw a decent pass. Good footwork. Made a good covering tackle to help prevent a try.
Reserves
19Cassius Tia. Solid runner, with decent ball distribution. But wasn't altogether impressed with seeing him bring back the Hasler low Crossfield bomb at one point. But no complaints with his long kicking game m I think he missed out on a 40/20 early in his stint but got one later on from memory.
20Taye Cochrane. Was playing against the second string roster. But looked solid. Made good defensive choices and has a real crack. Got his nose into some gais but didn't quite punch through. Might be a good prospect with a bit more development.
21Logan Spinks. I don't recall seeing him play many minutes. But he seemed to be pretty zippy with his runs.
23Zyon Maiuú. Made good PCM. but from memory I think he was 50/50 with getting put on his back by defenders.
24Ragarive Wavik. Unlucky not to score. But looks a big unit for a winger. Will be interesting to see how he develops. Didn't get much if a run, but didn't seem to do anything wrong.
25Cooper Toy. Also didn't get many minutes, but I saw him looking for defensive work and he appeared in support on both edges in his small stint.
26Taniela Otukolo. From memory he was the third hooker we used. I think he was one of the youngsters with the mullets. Looked like he was defending with some aggression and was pretty keen to get involved. I don't recall him doing anything spectacular. But he wasn't on for long.
27Jed Reardon. Looks like a bug limp of a lad. I only recall seeing him make a couple of runs. So I didn't get a good read on him.
28William Afualo. I only recall him repelling the attack close to the lineva couple of times late in the match. So again, not a great chance to judge his ability.
29Jack Underhill. Seemed to be keen to be involved defensively and was pretty busy in a short stint. Unlucky to have spilled the ball in his attempt to score.

Yeah buddy I see this the same way, Logan the fullback jeez he looked zippy, I’m understanding why we took him from up qld. Could be our future fullback, was also good under the high ball.

Tia just needs a touch more first grade experience and I think we will be happy with him in a Kurt Mann role in the future.

The young fullback is Taye Cochrane from Flegg.

Most of the young guys seemed to have got a favourable mention by the Kennel experts.
However, the NRL is a totally different ballgame. The best option, is to give one of the younger players a chance in first grade.
It would be suicide to have any more than one, as they are not NRL ready. I would have Fifita on the bench.

Definitely not saying they’re going to win dally m but the signs of these players that played last week showed me the hunger and drive they have for our club which wasn’t evident before Ciraldo. So good to see the fruits from the top down to the juniors is a great sign

I think the side Ciro picked for trial 2 is the best we can come up with. All experienced NRL players.
