With Corona & a lack of jersey sponsor .. the stupidity of Jayden & CHN is the last thing we needed right now..

Canterbury Bulldogs could play games at Belmore if coronavirus NRL fan shut-out continues
Canterbury will explore the prospect of moving their home games to Belmore if fans are locked out of venues long-term.

The Bulldogs will become the first club to host a match behind closed doors when they play North Queensland at ANZ Stadium on Thursday night.

While that match will remain at the Sydney Olympic Park venue, Bulldogs boss Andrew Hill said that club was exploring the possibility of switching games to Belmore Sports Ground should the lockouts continue.

“The advice regarding the lockouts only came through late on Friday afternoon,” Hill said. “After talking to ANZ Stadium management we will go ahead with our first game at the venue on Thursday. However we will review all options which will include the potential of using Belmore Sports Grounds in future matches as a possibility.

“We are one of the few clubs who have that opportunity.”

The Bulldogs are slated to play a round 10 match against Manly at Belmore already. Because they already play at the venue there would be no issues with television broadcasts. While the Bulldogs train at the venue full-time.

Following their round two clash against the Cowboys on Thursday, the Bulldogs are not slated for another home game until round four where they are due to host the Sharks at ANZ Stadium. They will play Parramatta at the venue on April 18.

“We are clearly the first home team to play on Thursday,” Hill said. “It will be a significant financial hit to our club ranging in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. We wait advice from the government and the NRL around possible compensation. However our clear focus at this stage is still preparing for a game of football.”

OK we will be the 1st game played during the lock out but fmd how is this a bulldogs story. Every home team will be in the same boat. He starts the story with loss on money than brings up the port maq issue than back to lock out than back to suspension. 10weeks is stupid compared to other criminal offences by other players.

Please let Rapana be true. Why havnt we offered Alex J a contract? He is a gun winger and handy fullback. DWZ needs to be in the centers or wing. Meaney should be given another shit. Or put Hoppa back there.

If CHN gets 10 weeks that’s a fkn joke. He should be back round 2.
Rapana would be a great addition.
Belmore makes sense, but NRL will probably fine us for even suggesting it.

Corona virus is a distraction by world government for something else that is happening, it’s nothing more than a symptom of the flu
I hear you but thats irrelevant to what is actually happening.
Kiwis disadvantaged.
Revenue lost, NRL, Clubs, players?
If several players in any team get it they will be heavilly disadvantaged because they wont be able to take the field.
Then you have a time frame of what will probably be a minimum of months before we see the back end of the virus.
I just cant see how the comp can continue.

The team has to play so television rights are honoured. But are blocked from affording the game because they can't fund it with tickets. I think the NRL will simply cover the losses given that it is profiting from the game being played on TV and Dogs have no choice but to play, but could not be forced to at a loss.

This is the problem with the NRL and the media. Why make such a big deal about the financial loss??? Health and safety of people is the most important thing here.

To healthy people, it’s like the flu. But elderly, cancer sufferers, cardiacs, low-immunity etc it’s worse and can be deadly.

Either we go business as usual, have mass infections, massively overwhelmed hospitals and relatively high deaths but things go back to (relative) normal quicker...or we take the precautions, slow the infection rates, give hospitals a chance to cope being moderately overwhelmed, limit deaths and prolong the time until (relative) normal.

To advocate for the former is selfish and naive. Just like the toilet paper hoarders

The panic and disruption caused by the pandemic will impact every sector and business type financially. Sports is no different.

This is why they should suspend the competition completely as asking these clubs to hire stadiums without ticket sales etc will bankrupt them in no time, especially as most clubs run at a huge loss as it is even in the best of circumstances.

League or Basketball or Football etc will be the least of our worries when the whole economy shuts down worldwide and causes people to not be able to work and pay bills etc.

My initial thoughts were just go about our business and the sooner we get sick, the sooner we get threw it.
But - Our health care system would be over whelmed and then those that need help the most (elderly and others with a deficient immune system) would suffer.
So whatever it takes to slow/moderate I dont know the tide then surely that must come first.

The only solution to the financial side is to play all home games at either Council/Government or Team owned grounds. If the Dogs play at ANZ on Thursday, plus the loss of Rashays and the sleeve sponsorship, they have only themselves to blame for the financial burden. Let’s be real here, we have had years to upgrade Belmore to suit the rigors to be played at week in week out. Most Sydney sides play out of their home grounds and so should the dogs. I guarantee it would be a sellout every weekend.

Owning your own ground is a massive burden you lose money on the up keep and need constant events to just break even. The only team that owns their own ground are the Sharks and it’s really made them a financial powerhouse hasn’t it?
