Penrith's rookie tryscoring sensation Charlie Staines is the latest player on Trent Barrett's Bulldogs hit list for 2021.

Staines hit the headlines for scoring four tries on debut in round nine - becoming only the sixth player to do so in the game's history.

He added two more tries in his second game to again re-write the record books, making him the first player to score six tries in his first two games in over 80 years.

Barrett is currently an assistant coach at Penrith and is close to the 19-year-old from Forbes.

The Bulldogs' coach-elect has a 'no poaching rule' in place with the Panthers but Penrith are unlikely to stand in his way if he takes Staines.

The Panthers have a host of talented outside backs and Staines has only got his chance in the top grade through injury.

Other players on the Bulldogs' wish list include Staines' Panthers team-mate Matt Burton, Manly utility Dylan Walker and Broncos bad boy Tevita Pangai junior.

The players the media are talking about would be good pick ups but they're just saying anyone and everyone LOL

Seriously the kid finishes off a few tries through an already amazing backline and we're troffing over him.

Let's spend money on the key positions for once and trust that we can bring in good finishers on the cheap. Every club does it but us.

interesting to note the article says penrith wouldnt stand in barretts way if he wanted to approach staines. i suppose with the ridiculous amount of young talent they have even they know they cant keep them all. Barrett has been very clear that he is focused on penrith this year and hopefully they might appreciate that and give him a bit more leeway in recruiting panthers players in the future

The latest name on his hit list or the latest name they pull out of a hat and link to our club with no truth to the rumour?

I'd love for us to get Staines but doubt Penrith let him go and this seems like more total media bullshit to me.
