JAYDEN OKUNBOR SIGNS FOR A FURTHER TWO YEARS WITH THE BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs have moved quickly to lock up the services of Jayden Okunbor by extending the contract of the big winger by a further two years, keeping him at Belmore until the end of the 2021 season.

Okunbor, who is a local junior who played with the Miperra Colts, made his NRL debut this season against the Wests Tigers and has currently scored two tries in his five appearances.

The 196 cm giant has made an early impact so far, with seven line breaks in his five matches, in addition to averaging 180 running metres per game.

Definitely needs to work on his defence.

Very vital we lock up as many local juniors and juniors that have come through out system. It's the only way we will see sustainable change in our culture.

Okunbur may or may not live up to early expectations, but the 2 years is perfect. Gives him more than enough time to prove whether he will be a long term fixture on our team or not.

I think his poor performances in the last 2 games has helped him be realistic with the offer. He now knows that developing himself must happen in the NRL before he can command the big $. If he had smashed it game after game, without mistakes, we would have been facing bigger $$$. We dodged a bullet there by his lack of experience and weaknesses beyond exposed in a timely way for our benefit but also for his in the long run.

he will earn $10 for every rush in off of his wing in the next two years for his 150k contract

Happy to have him locked up for another 2 years after seeing what he can do in NRL (both good and bad).

I doubt he would have cost much and despite the rough edges he has potential to be a good winger.

Hopefully way under 200k and a special under 12s training camp where they teach kids how to catch and pass and how to read defense....

Nice work. I doubt he would have been re-signed for very much. He has a tonne of potential but he's raw as fuck right now.

Obviously his defensive awareness is a problem as is his catching bombs and overall effort but hopefully we see a different player by the end of the season than we saw against Souths and Saints..

If he has a few more shockers, hopefully Katoa will be ready to take his chance and give Okunbur a spell in reserves to work on his game. But either way let's not hammer the kid if he makes rookie mistakes.

Congrats to the kid. He's got plenty of mistakes in him, but it's still nice to have a player that can actually break the line for a change.
