The 3 men i looked up to and held high as men were all small men.
All intelligent men
All tough men
All gentlemen.

1: my dad.
Old school dad, bread winner, dependable rock. Showed very little emotion, set high standards, and walked the walk.
Still to this day, the smartest man i have ever known.

2: Folksey
He reminded me of my Dad.
I was fortunate to get to know Steve.
He was a mans man.
Not the biggest but for his size he was tough.
He set standards. He was a true gentleman who cared about people.
Its such a shame egos by lesser men like SBW, Mason, and co at the time basically killed Steves coaching career.

3: Mr Menzies.
My engineering science teacher.
Exactly same as both men listed above.

All 3 men were small men physically,
But all 3 were real men.
Tough, dependable. Intelligent.
Common sence came naturally to all 3 men.

My dad is the only one still alive and he has Dimentia.
Not the same man i once knew.

I miss all 3.

I still find it hard to believe he has gone. A true club & rugby league legend. 3 years has gone way too quickly. I hope his kids are doing OK.

The ONLY good thing to come out of it is that we didn't get to see him with dementia. That would really have been unfair to such a good man.

Steve Folkes was a gentleman, he was loyal to his club and he was a champion.
I doubt in the future when there are conversations of the past that Steve won't be remembered
in the proper vein that he richly deserves.

Kindest wishes to his family on this anniversary - you should all stand tall !

Greatest Bulldog of all time. And you don’t have to be the greatest bulldog player to be the greatest bulldog, there’s a difference.

Folksey is Canterbury.

Local junior, multiple premiership winning bulldog player, bulldog trainer, bulldog conditioner, bulldog lower grade coach, bulldog premiership winning coach, life member. All these services for the same club spanning 35 years. When you talk about bulldog culture or the bulldog “DNA” only one word comes to my mind - Folkes

RIP legend!

Steve came to my school (Birrong Boys) as a relief PE teacher a couple of times in 1984 when I was in year 10. So gutted that I missed out on that experience! A great great Bulldog. Gone way too soon.
