The Bulldogs will have further discussions with Canterbury Council this week about their proposed return to the club's spiritual home, Belmore Oval.

Club chief executive Todd Greenberg said the plan to return to Belmore as the Bulldogs' training ground and administration centre depended on a submission for a $5 million government grant.

The Dogs are currently training at Wilson Park near Silverwater prison and while the club is impressed by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority-owned facility, it's keen to shift back to Belmore, which now hosts Sydney Olympic football games.

The Federal Government has identified Bankstown-Canterbury as one of the 10 highest areas for unemployment in Sydney and the Bulldogs' proposal emphasises that a homecoming would not only be community-oriented but also a chance to create employment opportunities.

''We've put a lot of energy into Belmore over the last six to eight months,'' Greenberg said.

''We've had numerous meetings with the council and we'll be meeting again [this week].''

The club expected to know by June 30 if its grant application has been successful.

However, Greenberg said Bulldogs supporters should not expect that a relocation to Belmore would mean an immediate return of NRL games to a ground that was once renowned for intimidating visiting teams.

''There wouldn't be any NRL games [immediately] but there'd be junior league and [junior] rep games,'' he said

dont get your hopes up that NRL games are returning, maybe a one off game but the contract at Stadium Australia is just too valuable for the teams to give up.
