I don’t find him annoying he is an icon of Sydney he can be a bit controversial here and there
but he mainly makes people smile.
He was only asked to move on from within the Building, he could have walked outside and that would have been it BUT guess what he didnt and he declined multiples times when the police officers asked him politely, he then further resisted the officers attempts when he wouldn't comply with them physically detaining him ...
Actions have consequences Danny. Welcome to the real world.
He should take his own advice and 'Smile ****' .. dont be a hypocrite Danny

and the concierge staff at QVB (who are absolutely lovely mind you), don't need to be dealing with shit like that throughout their day.

He's as big a nuisance as that Pro Russian Aussie Cossack dickhead in Sydney.

I'm not sure if the appropriate consequence for the 'action' of refusing to leave a building is to have your head rammed onto a hard floor causing a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
It doesn't matter how many times they asked him to go outside. They would never be able to justify causing such a serious head injury. Or any injury for that matter.
In fact the magistrate's court made very clear to the police he is not causing an offence. So they were already on notice to leave him alone.

On a few social media platforms there have been people commenting that they too (or their children) have been strong armed by this same taller policeman whom they recognised in the clip....take it as you wish...just passing on the scuttlebutt being said by some.

It seems inappropriate and excessive force by a much bigger person of authority over a 78 y.o. and for what? A sandwich board which a magistrate already ruled was not offensive and the previous police charge was dismissed.

Police state if (admittedly nuisance behaviour) but not illegal or threatening, and our law enforcement only have the neandathal skill of handling it like that.

It's not acceptable and now there is a sizable movement of people organising and recommending a boycott of the QVB.

Just so unnecessary all round for everybody.

I had a homeless guy sleeping on the steps of one of the commercial buildings I look after and asked him politely to move as it’s private property and he told me to fuck off. I said look mate I don’t want to call the police or anything but you can’t sit here drinking and swearing and he pretty much told me to get fucked so I called the council to see if there was a service that could come out to give him some support but they are hopeless so called the Rocks police and they came out and sat down with him and had a chat and he moved much better policing.

Playing the devils advocate here, but:
1. He was asked to leave QVB nicely by onsite concierge after complaints about his behaviour. He refused.
2. Police were called who also asked him to leave and gave him a move on direction. He refused.
3. Police then stated he was being placed under arrest for failing to move on. He refused to comply and instead struggled with them.

It was at that point he attempted to break their grasp, and was taken to the ground and arrested.

Pretty clear that the tiled floor of the QVB isn't a soft landing for someones face.

Moral of the story: When police ask you to do something, or someone (with authority in a public building) asks you to do something, just bloody comply instead of being a dickhead, and if you opt to go the dickhead route, you've got to expect that you might win stupid prizes for playing stupid games.

Thing is Danny knows that despite being in the wrong, he can pull the pity card and people will side with "the poor old man".
He did not commit a crime.

So police told me in my situation that there is not really that much you can do the only thing is to apply for a banning order as the homeless gentleman is on private property but they don’t really encourage people going down that path as it’s not nice for anyone. But if you do apply for it they can arrest the person.

Yep he should have just gone outside I do agree with that but the police probably didn’t need to use that much force.

The police should have said look Danny I know who you are and I massively respect you brother but the owners don’t think it’s a good look with little kids around with a sign that almost looks like the c word ya no what I mean do you know what I’m saying? Look I think it’s quite amusing and your more than welcome to do it in a public space but this is private property you know what I mean so let’s keep it moving outside and just get on with it yeah. Also can I get a photo outside bro because you are a Sydney legend.

Bro who said they didn’t go through that conversation with him? It’s likely they did try that approach in the multiple times he was asked to ‘move on’ .. all I’m saying is I’ve had dealings with him on trains and he isn’t as fun loving as people consider him to be.

Yeah okay I get that but next move after asking him politely is saying Danny mate look I don’t want to fucking have to carry you out of here and technically I could arrest you so fuck let’s not go down that path. Also can you stop swearing at me I’m being very reasonable are you just going to walk out or do we have to escort you mate come on work with me. But I don’t know what actually happened on the day so who knows. But probably regret smashing him on the hard tile floor.

I don’t like that an old guy or anyone would go head first into the ground either.
