The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs can provide the following update on the club's official NRL squad for the 2021 season.
Twenty-nine players must be contracted by the start of March, with the final roster spot to be filled by June 30.

The current NRL contracted squad stands at 28 players following the signing of Corey Allan on a three-year deal.

The club still has two spots still available before the June 30 deadline.

The Bulldogs confirmed the signings of Nick Cotric, Kyle Flanagan, Corey Waddell and Jack Hetherington during the 2020 season as new faces to the club’s roster, while local junior Tui Katoa, James Roumanos and Tyrone Harding have been elevated from the club’s development squad in 2020 and rewarded with top 30 contracts.

The club's development players are Matt Doorey, Paul Karaitiana, Jackson Topine, Kurt Picken and Chris Patolo.

With Chrichton being injured and potentially missing the full season, do we have a way of swapping him out of the 30 man squad? For example drop him to the development players list? Obviously he has a contract, we need to pay him that amount but can we gain a spot by moving him out of the 30 squad? If he is out the season, I’d rather not include him and list him as development of NSWC player and elevate Schoupp or another junior for potential experience.

Crichton out for season wasting a spot, I mean yeah he has wasted a spot for the previous 2 seasons but going one better this year
Crichton is on the minimum, getting someone else who is also on the minimum would make no difference.

Having competition for spots and or cover for further injuries or form slumps wouldn’t make a difference? It’s not necessarily about the salary cap, but it would be handy to have 30 fit and available players than handicapping ourselves by starting a man down from day 1. It wouldn’t even need to be an outside back, bring Doorey into the 30 who as a development player won’t play FG without NRL approval.

Injury matters very little in these circumstances.. he had to be listed in the top 30 regardless.. same as with roumanos and harding, they may never see first grade, however when they were contracted by the club, the money was sourced from the first tier cap and therefore they must be in the top 30 regardless of any other circumstances..

What no Arron Schoupp???
Looks unlikely we'll get a decent dummy half for 21, and with our shortage of centres, maybe Schoupp still being considered for the top 30? Or maybe he'll join the development players if one of them moves to the top 30.

Injuries can happen to any player at any time, we could recruit a Crichton replacement today and they could get inured tomorrow. Day 1 was 1st November 2020 for this season, that ship has well and truly sailed. We do still have 2 spots available and realistically Burton and JAC are very slim chances of filling them. As we have done a couple of times in the past, I'm happy to have 1 spot open until 30th June, just in case a good (for us) player becomes available.

Love it that we are now in control of our roster and with more players being moved on between now and end of the year its just great to be able to shop around freely after 5 years of hell.

Can't imagine my Mrs not being able to shop for 5 mins let alone 5 years. She just never understood my pain.
