The Bulldogs are working with the NRL Integrity Unit in a bid to try and sign sacked Dragons prop Paul Vaughan.

Phil Rothfield revealed on NRL 360 that the issue is whether Vaughan would have to serve part or all of his eight week suspension for the infamous Covid breach party.

“I think Paul Vaughan will be there as well at the Bulldogs,” Rothfield said on NRL 360.

“It is a complicated one because they are talking with the integrity unit about if they sign him now does that work off the eight week suspension he owes.

“Or can they wait and sign him next year and will the suspension be gone by then. That’s the conversation they are having.”

“When the NRL first put it out they said wherever he ended up that is where the eight week suspension had to be served,” Paul Kent added.

“Which is such a deterent.”

“But the NRL won’t let the Bulldogs sign him for $20,000,” Rothfield said.

“It will have to be a realistic eight week contract.”

Why….. the penalty was about penalising the player, not the club.

The Bulldogs should not have to pay market price. Again, the penalty Vaughan has accepted is the loss of the final year of his $800k contract, in addition to what he would have been paid for the remainder of 2021.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, especially with Gus now onboard.

Don't think it makes sense for him to have to miss 8 games next season when he has already been sacked. He's basically getting a 16 game ban on-top of him being fined and losing an 800k contract.

It was good to see on NRL 360 tonight that Kent sought clarification from the NRL about Vaughan's suspension. The NRL said that he was given the 8 games BEFORE he was sacked so if he was to get a contract for next year he would be available from round 1 - GOOD NEWS!!! And the right thing no matter who he signs with.

Yes the suspension issue has been clarified and doesn't carry over to 2022..there is another thread with the more up to date info!

Why don't we just frontload his contract then. Pay him more this year for the remainder of the year and less in subsequent years
