BULLDOGS BOARD TO BE RE-ELECTED UNOPPOSED
Wednesday 10 Dec 2008 20:34
by Kieran Rawnsley

Nominations closed today at 4pm for the election of Chairman and the Board of Directors of the Bulldogs Rugby League Club Ltd. This year there were no nominations opposing the current regime meaning the existing Board of Directors and Chairman will be elected unopposed at the AGM in February.

Last year sixteen nominations were received to fill the seven available positions on the Bulldogs board with the former CEO Malcolm Noad holding the other remaining position as an executive director. The rival ticket were successful in obtaining five of the seven positions but their leader Graeme Hughes did not secure enough votes to be elected to the board. The new CEO Todd Greenburg Decided not to take up the eighth position as an executive director which resulted in Arthur Coorey being added in the place of Malcolm Noad during August. The members of the 2008 board and the directors that will continue into 2009 are:

Dr George Peponis (Chairman)
Peter Cassilles (Deputy Chairman)
Phil Charlton
Arthur Coorey
Ray Dib
Paul Dunn
Anthony Elias
Andrew Farrar
Barry Ward

There were rumours of a rival ticket being formed to challenge the current administration, but sources within the rival faction revealed the bid fell over at the eleventh hour due to a lack of support. Bulldogs fans would vividly remember the ugly boardroom battle from last year that resulted in the departure of the media manager Chris O'Brien, Mr O'Brien resigned after he was implicated in the Ronnie Younis scandal. E-Mails were sent from Mr O'Brien's home computer under the alias of Ronnie Younis to media outlets defaming Bulldogs Director Ray Dib.

So after six turbulent seasons at Belmore the Blue and White faithful can look forward to 2009 and a new successful era for the club. With new head coach Kevin Moore at the helm, a new deal with charity Camp Quality, and several new faces in the squad the future looks bright. Hopefully after the sacking of Reni Matuia for numerous breaches of the club's code of conduct the Bulldogs can find themselves in the papers for the right reasons, and restore the family culture that made the club so successful in the past.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Tuesday that the Bulldogs and Sydney Bulls will form a joint venture to participate in the 2009 VB NSW Cup. The new team named the Bankstown City Bulls will be coached by former Canterbury great and local junior Terry Lamb. The Bulls will be the feeder team for the Bulldogs NRL side.
