If it’s out there then it’s as good as done."closing in on a 2 year extension" doesn't mean he has signed anything!
Shifty was the first and we saw how that went.2 year extensions are the best bet for any player. Keep them on their toes. Keep their output high. Long term deals are never that beneficial. Look at DCE and Taumololo? What have they done ?
Before my time, please elaborateShifty was the first and we saw how that went.
Not everything with a 2 year extension is good;
The first problem with a 2 year contract for Xerri is that by next 1st November we have to complete negotiations on another contract extension otherwise another club can sign him. We really only get 1 year without renegotiating.
The second problem with the 2 year extension is that you have to negotiate possibly before the 2025 is season is even completed. You may not get a full season to assess and you may be negotiating during a finals campaign. Far from ideal.
The third problem,I have no doubt that Xerri will continue to improve after another full preseason and his first playing season for 4 years, that will mean his contract value will increase for 2027. Whereas if we had locked him in for 3 years his value would be what it is now not what it might be during next season.
Plainly his agent/manager is aware of the above and the improved negotiating power that will give him and his player in less than 12 months.

How old are you? 12?Before my time, please elaborate
He is already signed for next year. So his new contract would run through until the end of 2027. So your whole point is mute.Not everything with a 2 year extension is good;

2 year contacts at the dogs means club first. I don’t mind it unless they’re a high profile marquee player, I’d prefer 3/4 years.2 year extensions are the best bet for any player. Yeah we do, thats why your comment is poopooShifty was the first and we saw how that went.
The bloke that got us our last premiership?Shifty was the first and we saw how that went.
I wish.. well not really in this current time. I mean I moved to Australia (from lebanon) in mid 2010. So I wasn't following before that. And I'm not gonna claim I know shit I wasn't following in detail. Plus his comment was super vague.How old are you? 12?
Yeah he’s a champ and I love Shifty but his 5 year deal didn’t really work out and he left after 4 years so I wonder would we have gotten more value for longer if his deal was 2-3 years instead.The bloke that got us our last premiership?
