News BRONSON XERRI SIGNS 2 YEARS EXTENSION

Good stuff.

Thought he was great last year after 4 years out of the game (which is a long long time to not play a game)

Should only get better and better. Has the potential to be an elite centre in the NRL

2 year extensions are the best bet for any player. Keep them on their toes. Keep their output high. Long term deals are never that beneficial. Look at DCE and Taumololo? What have they done ?
Shifty was the first and we saw how that went.

Not everything with a 2 year extension is good;

The first problem with a 2 year contract for Xerri is that by next 1st November we have to complete negotiations on another contract extension otherwise another club can sign him. We really only get 1 year without renegotiating.

The second problem with the 2 year extension is that you have to negotiate possibly before the 2025 is season is even completed. You may not get a full season to assess and you may be negotiating during a finals campaign. Far from ideal.

The third problem,I have no doubt that Xerri will continue to improve after another full preseason and his first playing season for 4 years, that will mean his contract value will increase for 2027. Whereas if we had locked him in for 3 years his value would be what it is now not what it might be during next season.

Plainly his agent/manager is aware of the above and the improved negotiating power that will give him and his player in less than 12 months.

Assuming it's a fine deal, hrs contracted for next season already, plus two year extension means three years all up. We'll be able to start negotiating in 26 if we want to extend again and not let other clubs get a look in. He's locked in til 27.

He is already signed for next year. So his new contract would run through until the end of 2027. So your whole point is mute.

2 year contacts at the dogs means club first. I don’t mind it unless they’re a high profile marquee player, I’d prefer 3/4 years.

Club is heading in the right direction. No middle signing yet. We keep buying back after back. A middle signing soon is in order please.

Two years is good business ,club gets to get a good handle on what his ceiling will be and he gets two years to repay the faith. Good Times.

The bloke that got us our last premiership?
Yeah he’s a champ and I love Shifty but his 5 year deal didn’t really work out and he left after 4 years so I wonder would we have gotten more value for longer if his deal was 2-3 years instead.

I'm hoping we take a look at blake Wilson and give him a go next year, he's still young and full of potential. I don't mind Montoya although I think if blake locks in a spot next season we should re-sign him and form a backline that's going to be with us for years to come. I remember when the bulldogs were VS the eels I was still in parklea cc and couldn't watch it as it wasn't on nine, had the walkman and went off when I heard "Wilson on the sideline...Wilson scoressss" favourite game of the year by far! Fk the eels

Glad he is sticking around; he is a potential game breaker for a top 4 team. We are difficult to stop when you have strike weapons on both sides of the field.

Only concern with a 2 year deal is we will have almost all our best players come off contract at the end of 2027. Hopefully we can give extensions to Kiraz and Crichton at the end of next season to give us better felxibility.
