Rabbitohs skipper Adam Reynolds has launched an audacious bid to secure a $2.8 million four-year deal with the Broncos that would take him through to the end of 2025.

The Courier Mail reported Reynolds has spoken with the Broncos about a potential four-year contract that would finish in the year he turns 35 years old.

The Sharks were considered the favourites to land the 31-year-old on a three-year deal worth a reported $2.4 million, but the mooted Broncos deal would be for $700,000 a season and provide Reynolds with the security of an extra year.

The Rabbitohs have offered their captain a one-year extension worth $800,000 with an option in the club’s favour for 2023.

However Reynolds is convinced that he can play into his mid-30s and is intent on securing a long-term deal to set up his families’ future.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters and CEO Dave Donaghy flew to Sydney last Sunday for talks with Reynolds, who revealed his requests, which included the possibility of a four-year contract.

The Sharks are keen on Reynolds, but are not prepared at this stage to take the risk of agreeing to a four-year contract with the halfback who will turn 31 in July.

Walters has been vocal of his club’s desire to secure a marquee playmaker after the club let young gun Tom Dearden sign with rivals the Cowboys on a three-year deal.

The Broncos were reportedly keen on Eels playmaker Mitchell Moses, but he looks set to ink a multi-year extension to stay with Parramatta.

Sharks five-eighth Shaun Johnson has also been linked with the Broncos, although he appears to be down the pecking order if Brisbane can’t lure Reynolds north.

The Broncos’ meeting with Reynolds was reportedly very positive, with the veteran halfback open to moving interstate for the right deal.

The Broncos are not sold on Brodie Croft, who is languishing in reserve grade, despite being contracted for 2022, while Anthony Milford is also unlikely to be re-signed after being dropped last month.

Reynolds was clearly missed by the Rabbitohs, who capitulated 50-0 to the Storm in Round 9 while their captain is out with an injured thumb.

However the Rabbitohs are holding firm, which leaves the race for Reynolds’ services down to the Broncos and the Sharks, with Brisbane the clear favourites if they grant him his wish of a four-year contract.

Reynolds has scored 36 tries and 1,724 points in 214 games for the Rabbitohs since his debut in 2012 and won a premiership with the club in 2014 and also represented NSW in two games in 2016.

700 is probably a fair price but will he still be any good at 34/35 when still on 700...idk, but am glad we arent in the mix on those terms.
Looks like a risk the Broncos are going to take unless they're going to pay massive overs for Moses.

Broncos should offer him this deal but he only gets the 3rd year if they make the finals in year 2 and he only gets the 4th year if they make the finals in year 3.

Reynolds wants the confirmed job security, he'd also rather stay in Sydney. If the Broncos want him they'll have to risk it.

His body won't hold up til he's 35. Souths are worried about him breaking down now which is why they won't offer more years.

Anyway, Brisbane would improve a tonne with his kicking game and direction and he'd be a good signing for whichever club he joins..

Souths have underappreciated Reynolds for years and while he's not their most talented player, I think he's always been their most important player and think they'll struggle once he's gone.

Likely to become more injury prone as he ages, and loses a bit of speed to the big forwards. He would be very useful, in a Benji way - but even Benji couldn't lay a hand on the Storm. If the Storm had been on target with their kicking, the score would have been 60-0.

Souths shouldn't worry about injury as anytime they want to medically retire someone with cap exemptions they get it.

Broncos are also probably thinking that is an option if they go 4 years.

You just have to look at our 2012 semi when he went off at half time and we then ran away with the game. He's been that important to them from the beginning.

Haha. Very true. In that case Souths should give him whatever he wants and use another get out of cap trouble free card with the NRL..

The issue with players medically retiring is that BOTH the club and the player have to agree to it. If Reynolds believed that he could keep playing then nothing the club (whoever it is ) could do about it.

True, that was our issue with Foran.

Surely we target TPJ now!No way they can resign him now in the cap. Although NRL is probably desperate for there to be a top 8 qld side. Must be killing them financially for them all to be so bad for so long. In that case NRL might be willing to look the other way in terms of salary cap for the qld sides until they are competitive again. Still think we should throw the sink at TPJ easily the best forward off contract that can play on the middle or on an edge.

Brisbane always made the most sense and need a half the most so that wouldn't surprise me. It's a good signing for Brisbane regardless of the risk with a big, long term deal because he's exactly what they've been missing for years.

I don't think Tevita is off contract til next year but he could be available if a club makes him a big offer that Brisbane can't or won't match.

Yeah your right zero tackle says he is at Brisbane till 2022 damn. Don't think they will let him go now with Carrigan out for the season and he has probably been there best after Haas.

It depends on how things unfold. If they're stuck with Lodge, sign Reynolds and upgrade Staggs, Riki and Piakura etc while still needing to give more to Haas, then they might not stand in TPJ's way if he gets a big offer.

Nasheed here,
i said this a week ago and ill say it again today.

He is angling for a medical retirement.
He knows he has only 2 and a bit years left, he wants to retire and get 12-24 mobths future pay at 700k a pop. I guarantee it.

If souths. cronulla and vrisbane were smart they would do something freakzilla said (Shout out to my main man @Freakzilla ) or do the Darius clause that years 3 or 4 can only be activated if he plays a certain amount of games, such as 15 in Darius' case.
Think about it, if he refuses that then it directly means he isnt confident he will do it.

That would put Adam in a corner. He gets his wish and if he has devilish intention, he cant say anything.
