To be fair to Greenberg he joined a club in shambles in 2008. No sponsor, wooden spooners, the SBW walk out. Which was a baptism of fire. And I thought he did well with the camp quality promotion, he was involved in the big push to secure many quality players for 2009 (including bmoz, Eastwood, hannant, stagg and ennis). He dug his heels in with SBW, in effect locking him out of the NRL until 2013 and we did get a monetary compensation for his walk out (more then we got for Barba).
In effect he built a contender and was the catalyst (to be fair along with dib and the board) to make us financial independent and opened the door for many future corporate dollars.
He was then part of a secondary premiership push with Hasler, Graham, Pritchard and co when he again managed a retweeked roster to give us another short period of dominance before jumping ship.
I wouldn’t say he was a horrible CEO for us. But he is a weasel who jumps from role to role. He never has the organisation’s best interest at heart and puts himself and his own interests above all. He is a bit media whorish and his political approach is more about his image then doing what’s best for the organisation.
He had come and gone several times in the past, walking in and out when a better opportunity appears. Fair enough money is money and most people would do the same. But he just doesn’t have the heart of commitment to see a job through from start to finish and put the organisations interest before his own.
