I disagree.
I feel he (and Parra) have been unlucky to not make 2 other GFs in his time....

Dont get me wrong, i enjoy seeing them fail to win a GF year after year.... But you'd have to be completely ignorant to think they weren't a contender for most of the last 5 years...

Its not easy to win a GF. You first need to be a top 4 team and then you need your key players healthy and in form. Probably need abit of luck (or in the case of Parra) avoid bad luck.

They were within a whisker of GFs and currently decimated with key injuries. Very much a panic decision IMO unless they jave a big fish in mind
Well, we'll have to agree to disagree as I've said numerous times they'd never win a comp while Brad Arthur is/was their coach and I've been proven correct. He's not a first-grade standard coach.

Eels had a lot of their best players leaving over the last few years and while they've had the nucleus of a more than handy first grade side, they've lacked overall depth and have looked impressive against moderate opposition only to be shown up when up against top 4 teams time and time again. Furthermore, more often than not they can't compete for the full 80 minutes, against the top sides as evidenced on the weekend against the Storm.

Yes, they made a GF but were extremely lucky to as Cowboys were robbed in the semi-final in Townsville off an Eels blatant forward pass that led to a try. I knew when they met the Panthers, Eels would get flogged as I was hoping to see Panthers tested more against a team that would've proven a lot harder to beat than the Eels.

Panthers virtually played them into finals footy as they know they have their measure when it counts in the finals. During the season Eels beat the Panthers twice but that's what the top teams do and have done for decades is play teams they would prefer to meet in finals footy than others they know would be far harder to beat, in other words when it counts the cream rises to the top.

Sacking of BA is a huge positive for the Eels and their fans. It couldn't go on any longer. BA gave it his best and that's all you can ask for but he failed to attract more high profile players to the club which would've made them strong title contenders.

I have always been unashamedly a Skelator fan.
So was I, until he came back to the club.

Each team he coaches he leaves them in worse shape.

It take teams years to recover.

If the reports are true, he's been treated really poorly tbh. All at Parra management should be ashamed.

Also if reports are true, the board decided to sack him on the 1st of May but didn't announce it until yesterday in a failed bid to lure skelator

Parras management are a mess. They are the reason they haven't won a comp in 40 years.

Theyve made 3 GFs in that time....

2001 - Red hot favourites. I was resigned to them winning it, but was pleasantly surprised Joey and Hagan were able to orchestrate an incredible upset against the odds.

2009 - Off the back of Jarryd Hayne brilliance but having knocked us out in the prelim. Could have won the game but Inglis made sure they didnt! Storm got done for SC cheating having made 4 GF in a row. Unlucky to play a cheating team in the GF. Sucked in anyways.

2022 - Finally make the GF in what was looking like their closing window. But face a hot Penrith team. Never in this one really.

Truth is, they should have made at least 1 more GF in the period between 2017-2022 as they have looked a top 4 team for most of those years.

Injuries to key personnel is always a big factor as well as winning the moments.

If they were to land a Bennett, you'd think they feature in and around those big ganes again.

2001 is the only realistic game they should have won. They are a mess of a club and run by a bunch of duds.

Their GF performances are like ours in the last 20 years....

We also should have won in 2012 but didnt, and shouldnt have been near a GF in 2014 but somehow got there only to be shown up.

Again, i dont think the coach is to blame for their current predicament unless you believe spending big chunk of your SC on 2 spine players is wrong...... (I dont)

I honestly won't be shocked if Bennett ends up at Parra.
Said this to many people ages ago. Red flag for me was Lomax deal. Why go to Parra on a pay cut on Red V deal, when everyone knows Roosters are losing Manu / Suaalii. Roosters were pretty quick to offer Gagai a contract, why not younger in form Lomax ?
100% I think Lomax was likely assured Bennett would be coach or at least that they would chase his signature

Exactly, when we were laughing at Parramatta ten - twelve years ago, it wasn’t too far off the time frame we are at now.
