I disagree.
I feel he (and Parra) have been unlucky to not make 2 other GFs in his time....
Dont get me wrong, i enjoy seeing them fail to win a GF year after year.... But you'd have to be completely ignorant to think they weren't a contender for most of the last 5 years...
Its not easy to win a GF. You first need to be a top 4 team and then you need your key players healthy and in form. Probably need abit of luck (or in the case of Parra) avoid bad luck.
They were within a whisker of GFs and currently decimated with key injuries. Very much a panic decision IMO unless they jave a big fish in mind
Well, we'll have to agree to disagree as I've said numerous times they'd never win a comp while Brad Arthur is/was their coach and I've been proven correct. He's not a first-grade standard coach.
Eels had a lot of their best players leaving over the last few years and while they've had the nucleus of a more than handy first grade side, they've lacked overall depth and have looked impressive against moderate opposition only to be shown up when up against top 4 teams time and time again. Furthermore, more often than not they can't compete for the full 80 minutes, against the top sides as evidenced on the weekend against the Storm.
Yes, they made a GF but were extremely lucky to as Cowboys were robbed in the semi-final in Townsville off an Eels blatant forward pass that led to a try. I knew when they met the Panthers, Eels would get flogged as I was hoping to see Panthers tested more against a team that would've proven a lot harder to beat than the Eels.
Panthers virtually played them into finals footy as they know they have their measure when it counts in the finals. During the season Eels beat the Panthers twice but that's what the top teams do and have done for decades is play teams they would prefer to meet in finals footy than others they know would be far harder to beat, in other words when it counts the cream rises to the top.
Sacking of BA is a huge positive for the Eels and their fans. It couldn't go on any longer. BA gave it his best and that's all you can ask for but he failed to attract more high profile players to the club which would've made them strong title contenders.
