THESE are the damaging headlines you won’t see at Belmore for at least two years.

In a remarkable show of support, all board contenders have withdrawn from Canterbury’s looming football club elections, with the current seven-man board to be returned unopposed.

The days of ugly election campaigns and board infighting at Belmore appear over.

The Daily Telegraph has been told four candidates who considered running but knew they wouldn’t have the support to unseat a board guiding the famous club back to success.

Canterbury’s board, led by chairman John Khoury, will be formally returned for another two years at the club’s AGM on February 13.

It is also a strong endorsement for new general manager of football Phil Gould and club boss Aaron Warburton.

A remarkable recruitment drive has lifted the spirits and expectations of fans, who have been forced to endure 38 losses over the past 44 games.

The window for candidates to lodge an interest in running at the election has now closed.

Bulldogs management say the board’s return will give the club stability and security.

The club’s returning board will be Khoury, Adrian Turner, Andrew Gifford, Jim Koutsouklakis, Joe Thomas, Peter McMahon and Peter Mortimer.

“We have listened to all of our members and fans and the overriding response we have got is that they want the club to get back to where we need to be,” Khoury said.

“As a board, that has meant looking at all facets of how we operate and making sure that we have returned to our traditional values.

“We have brought a lot of qualified and experienced ex- Bulldogs back into the fold, and we believe that they can help educate our younger players on what the Bulldogs are all about. To do all of that you need stability in the front office, and we now hope that we can put plans in place to make sure that we are seen as a club of choice once again.”

Warburton added: “I see this as an endorsement of the positive direction in which the club is heading. This is the stability we need.”

A stable Canterbury Leagues Club board – led by chair Peter Winchester – is closely aligned with the football club.

Despite another poor showing in 2021, Canterbury has signed Josh Addo-Carr, Max King, Matt Burton, Brent Naden, Matt Dufty, Paul Vaughan, Tevita Pangai Jr, Josh Cook and Braidon Burns, with Parramatta’s Reed Mahoney to arrive in 2023.

“The club certainly looks like it’s moving in the right direction,” Bulldogs legend David Gillespie said. “The lack of success in recent years does hurt but good times lie ahead for the Dogs.

“The board being returned uncontested shows stability.

The fact no-one challenged indicates this board has enormous support among its fans and members.

“Canterbury needed stability and that’s what this board has delivered. I’m really confident success will return to Belmore sooner rather than later.

“The pressure will be on next year given the strength of the roster now.”

GREAT GTEAT news, a board member told me very recently that the board is strongly united, electing a new member may have led to a divided and disfunctial board.
As the saying goes united we stand divided we fall.

Funny the old mob gone and no drama!?
Never mind that 4 of 7 Directors from the ‘old mob’ remain and will remain for another two years - which you’ve continually failed to grasp.

If you mean the Andersons specifically, yep, no problem with them being gone equally with Dib and his cronies - but don’t make statements which are wrong, because a bunch of ‘the old mob’ are still in the chairs.

JK is a good bloke and deserves another two years to fully implement his plans. His inclusive management style works well and he listens to all stakeholders - it’s been evident at various engagements since he took the chair. His love for the club and lack of interest in a land grab (aka Dib and Anderson) serves the club well.

They knew they had to pull some rabbits out of the hat this time last year and they’ve made some positive moves we all know about. Now the results must come on the field which will also make the til ring - which is why they needed these two extra years to do it.

As Gus said last Saturday: ‘The Bulldogs of 2025 will be able to beat anyone, anywhere’.

Let’s hope it’s even sooner than that.

For 2022 I hope it's "The Bulldogs will be able to beat most teams, most places".

Impatience and optimism, a dangerous combination.

Always a Bulldog

JK should have the position for as long as he wants. He’s the only chairman/board member in recent memory paying all attention to results instead of politics. He gets shit done

Not sure how bad it had to get for people to hang their Egos up and let the club recover but congratulations to the current board who are turning things around.

Yeah he’s off to a good start.
We are a Member run club so the members will always be the ones to decide who gets elected (outside of resignations). But JK is clearly having the right impact which is evident by other candidates withdrawing before an election ie: they knew they stood no chance of unseating anyone. The 2022 AGM should be fairly short given the board will be returned unopposed!

Good news. It's no surprise. But after years of different factions, chairmans, coaches and CEOs it would be great to have some stability for several years now that we have great leaders like Khoury and Gus on board. Warburton is doing a good job too...

The best teams on the field generally have the best foundations and leadership in their administration. Thankfully we've finally got that part of the club in order after years of dysfunction.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. Even though we've only won 6 from our last 44 (holy shit that's crazy!) it's clear as day we're on the up off the field, and it's only a matter of time until we're back on top, on the field.

Ah one of Anderson’s and pays cheer squad. How’s the egg?

Amazed you would speak up after being the guy who made the whole thing about taking the piss out of the members meeting to get rid of your hero’s! How far off you where!.

I personally was never on any cheer squad for the Anderson's. But the fact remains that they dropped into a situation where the cap was busted on below par players. We had SFA in the juniors to balance that out and no plans in place to improve our juniors prospects.

The Anderson led board made the first moves to fix wonky foundations. Step 1- getting back under the cap, step 2- trying to improve our junior nursery by supporting country regions. You might not respect the work they did, but I guarantee they left an easier situation for their successors to deal with.

I'm not denying credit for this board. They've done good things. But it's partly due to the fact they were left in a position where they had the resources to. I'm not convinced that Khoury would have gotten them any further than the Anderson's if he'd fallen into the job when he had at least half a million to shed from the cap (supposedly), squad filler players on marquee money and close to the worst roster in the comp.

But I do recognise that talking sense to you is mostly futile. You'll vehemently oppose attempts to look at things objectively when you can throw snippy remarks around.

Where? Where what??
Oh, maybe you meant were :-).
Are you still salty because you were one of the pisstake targets? Time to move on maybe?
Hand in your membership card?

Regardless, you’re wrong. The majority of the ‘old mob’ remain so check your own chin for egg :-).

Precisely. But hey, TK is full of experts :-).
The biggest problem for both Dib and Anderson was they let the factions rot and hence went for land grabs that made the factions worse. JK abides the ‘club first’ approach and that’s the key to stability, along with commercial and on-field results which will both come.
