Who knows where it began but here is one of the pioneers of electronic music, Delia Derbyshire.
She was using oscillators before Moog and Buchla built them into modular cases with shaping modules such as voltage controlled filters etc.
I dont know of anyone that was sequencing music samples before her.
There is an ABC or BBC podcast (cant remember) that goes into finer detail regarding the construction of the Dr Who theme. How it was spliced together etc.
Anyways if your into producing EDM or whatever and you havent heard of her, you may enjoy this.
