Good on Benji for being in the position he is in. But fuck I'm over how media is saying oh Bulldogs didn't want him and now he's in a GF... Benji wouldnt have done a thing for us, he's lucky he's with a top side as no other dwellers could afford to carry him

I heard Souths are going to medically retire him after this season..... Thats all i know, don't ask me where i got my info from...
Unlikely after the spotlight cast on them medically retiring Sam Burgess, only to have him appear on SAS Who Dares Wins Australia, clearly showing the claim of a medical retirement was bogus.

Nonsense. He was great at the tigers last year snd almost piggy backed a terrible team into the finals. He is exactly what we were missing. Am dxietiejcdd hand who can set up tries.

Barrett us a fool for not signing him, tbh.

I think Benji would have been great for us. He knows how to throw a pass and put forwards into holes. I also think Averillo would have been twice the player he is if he had someone else controlling the game and letting him do what he does best which is run

But we still wouldn't have made the 8. I guess my point is only Souths, Panthers and Melbourne could have carried him this year

No we wouldn’t have made the eight but on the upside we might have avoided the spoon and had someone directing the show. Our young halves would have benefited from Benjis presence. On the downside he may have enabled Flanagan to carry on pretending that he is nrl standard for one more year.

Probs still would have managed to get the spoon, forwards were our issue

Benji would not be a good fit for us.

Benji, Souths, Wayne it was a perfect scenario for him. Souths were already a quality side that even Seibold got to top 4.

He plays 15 minute stints for the Rabbitohs and Bennett has used him quite cleverly. He doesn’t have more then a bursts of 15-20 mins left in him and he should walk out a champion instead of dragging on the inevitable

A few years ago, I would have said it was worth a shot. Now, I don't think so. Even though the position is still a headache, I don't think this is the answer.

No chance, Benji himself stated he can no longer play 80 and enjoys that fact.

I know it has been discussed previously. Reading an article in SMH about Benji this morning. Can't help but feel he would be of some value to us in 2022 if he still has the desire to play.

His humble enough to know he isn't going to be starting week in and week out. Much like his role at Souths currently. It's his experience and mentoring the young guys, professionalism and attitude that we would be paying for. Having someone out on the field at times to help our inexperienced halves learn on the field would be valuable.

The incentive for Benji would obviously be playing a final season with his brother. I couldn't imagine he would command much salary and with the money freed up from Elliott leaving we might have some $$ spare to make it happen.

We have proven in the past that we send off legends the right way, not how the tigers shit on him last year. Only have to look at how we sent off guys like Kimmorely, who played the bulk of his career elsewhere but was treated as a club champion.

Benji has been through it all, having to adjust from flashy big time player to percentages and not trying to win the game with one play. If it doesn't work out I don't see how it damages anything we have planned beyond 2022. Low risk
Mate, he is 36 years old!!! What can he offer? In any case, he is retiring.

I think he would be a good edition to the coaching setup. He is professional in how he approaches everything. He would be a great sounding board for our young halves.

I personally don't think Benji is right for a coaching role. He's a natural talent. He's the kind of player you sign early and are amazed by his skills. But his skills aren't something you can easily teach.

I compare him to Billy Slater (due to Slater being raised to the QLD coaching position). Slater is a developed talent. A relatively small guy with pace, but his skills were built over time. He became such a good fullback because he learned everything there was about the game. That's the kind of player that goes on to become a coach.

I love Benji as a player, but I don't think he's coaching material.

i agree he wouldn't be a good tactician or head coach, but in a welfare/mentor role, or a specialised position or plays coach, he might go alright.

Agree with you on Slater though. I think he is a good fit for the QLD job. He has said he has no interest in a full time coaching role as well.
