Not that far fetched will have to cough up big dollars, potentially leave a gap in the halfback position contingent on if any of our younger halfbacks come to fruition. If I had the choice I would take Hunt for next year in a heart beat, Sexton isn’t our long term option can’t facilitate Burton, Mahoney and him in a premiership winning spine imo.
Paps or Hunt is an easy one based of our side though.

Sexton is 23 and has just led his team to their first finals in 8 years and you want to dump him for a guy who will retire in 18 months and throw us back into a dead halves market which will get even worse with new teams coming in.

Only reason Woods was given that contract was to hold onto him, it’s an investment with 0 guarantee of working out

How much easier Sextons game will be from this year to next if we have a pack of big mobile boppers
making the metres up the middle. Then organising with Burton backline movements with the opposition on the back foot.
He did not have an ideal platform to work off.
This can be achieved with either May or Thompson or better both.

We're a better team than Dragon who also almost made the 8 when most had them gunning for the wooden spoon. Hunt was a top 2 player at Dragon and has been his whole time there. We're missing a middle and a halfback and he's twice (at least) the player Sexton is. Sexton isn't good enough to guarantee us to even make the 8 with our current squad (he's one of the worst players in our 13), Hunt is.

But Hunt is coached by supercoach Flanagan so why couldn’t he get his team into the top 8?

Still get the feeling Hunt is Gus' number 1 priority. Out of everyone available I have to agree he would make the biggest difference. Most try assists in the NRL this year. Great teacher for Burton and they just spent a few weeks together in camp. From all reports we were all in for Luai to play 7 too.

Roosters aren't as attractive as they used to be. Players being shown the door (Lodge, May and likely Cheese) and players leaving who they wanted to keep. We're more likely to win a comp than the Roosters. We're even stronger next year. Roosters are weaker

However if we do sign him, 2 of our spine won't be back until next year with him and Burto playing for Oz.

So we'd have a brand new spine again, and they wouldn't get reps until next year.

Also he's old, you never know when age will catch up with him he could all of a sudden just look old.
