Based on the implications of the story linked to above, he is set to take up a new role as the next Bond...

Don't blame him, the storm are going to be in trouble once the big 3 retire.

No big surprise, Bellamy without his threesome IMO would be a mediocre coach at best. Without Cam Smith Bellamy's win loss record is very poor to say the least.

We can count ourselves very lucky to have Des. He $hits all over Bellamy in the coaching stakes.

Exactly ... doesn't take much to see the real reason he is retiring.

Melb Storm are struggling already this year. With their dirty tactics getting found out more and more, and the aging 3, it was only a matter of time before Storm started a downhill slide.

Not surprised to be honest. Would hate to be the next person to take the reigns at Melbourne.

Bellamy has had the big 3,and probably kept them all illegally of coarse with the salary cap stuff, without those 3 Bellamy couldn't coach a horse to eat hay!!!! Tell me one coach in the nrl wouldn't of had success with that team? I know coaches assemble squads over time but he done his illegally and without a doubt would of lost a few big boys without cheating!!!!

Well you only have to look at his representative coaching stats to get an idea of his coaching prowess.

NSW coach 2 wins, 7 losses, 22% success rate

Country coach 1 win, 2 losses, 33% success rate

Not great reading.

He also has the worst win rate during origin time as well

Added an all important hyphen :grinning:

This is not surprising at all, just look at how successful Bennett has been... Can't blame Bellyache for wanting to go with the big 3. It is almost poetic.

he may have second thoughts when the retirement comes closer tbh, things change like malthouse saying that he would never coach against collingwood

I heard Bellamy talking on the radio, he sounded well and truly over it. I can understand not wanting to start again at a new club, imagine how tiring that would be.

a very good decision for himself. We will never know tho if he is truly a good coach without the likes of smith, coops and slater.

yeah im not questioning that he is over it today, but who knows how he will react after a year or 2 sitting around or going fishing

we can make some judgements for the rest of his contract, this is a very challenging time the big 3 are in decline

Ummm... Bellamy had an interview with Phil Gould right after he'd re-signed as coach for the Storm and stated clearly then that this would be his last contract and that he'd be retiring at the end of it.

This was mentioned when the Storm were at their heights.

Isn't their a succession plan for Cam Smith to coach the storm once he retires as a player?
