from what i've heard, all the current assistants (high performance, defence etc) are being let go after this year with Gus appointed new staff to be brought in as replacements
If true, doesn't it just add another huge ? about Barret as head coach ?
Every head coach selects their assistants including fitness and support.
If Gus is to do what thus says, then it shows yet another failing of Barret If the football manager is selecting the assistants. Basically can't even be trusted to select his own help, Gus Might as well select team list Tuesday and while he is at it, the game plan as well.
Mind you I wouldn't have a problem with that haha.

So can someone answer this, is and were Steve Kearney and Jason Demetriou defence and or attacking coaches for Bellamy and Bennett?

Personally, I think both should be separate to an assistant coach and be accountable for purely those roles.

your missing the point mate.
the attacking and defensive coach are the assistant coach but they specialise only in this areas. There is no assistant coach that sits above them, it is the head coach

Cheers mate. I am not aware of the NFL coaching structure. Are you saying all roles are separate from the assistant coach? Can you explain it please as I am interested.

All teams basically have the same coaching structure
Head coach
2 x assistant coach's which ARE the defence and attack coaches.
Fitness guru
And a couple of ex players specialising in maybe kicking, goal kicking halves etc etc
Physio
Doc
Thats the basic set up
In case of the storm and roosters they also have
Wrestling coach
MMA coach
Milking coach
Referee coach
Powder coach
Financial planner coach to ensure 2nd contracts are hidden properly
Note Storm didn't have to have a ref coach prior to last year as they the head ref, Cam Smith himself.

A defensive or attacking coach is still an assistant coach, just with a different title or more specific focus. Baz has several assistants. The question is whether we need better assistants.

I've been critical of Furner in his role as defensive coach but aside from Okunbur our defence has improved a tonne. Especially through the middle, line speed, kick chase and our goal line defence. It's only been two games and we'll see if they can sustain that defence against better teams but credit where it's due after the first two games.
Totally agree with you here B. Good post mate.

I can understand that. I know its early in a long year but I dont think they are fit or fast enough compared to other top teams.

Are we seriously discussing job titles, who gives a fark what their title is. What is in their job description, their KPI's and whether they are achieving them are what matters.

Coaches just as accountable as players...maybe even more so.

As long as that's explained to them by Gus....but they'd be aware they need to be on their toes with such an experienced GM of Football around the Club checking on what's going on.

Def we look like we are on the up in every dept tho (except for some selection decisions).
Hopefully that will change soon. Its a dillema, I would never want our team to lose but hope a certain player or 2 show again their lack of ability and we can still pull off a win despite them.

They have a Offensive coordinator, Defensive coordinator and Special Teams coach. Then obviously at the top is the head coach who ovesees all of them. Then within they coaching staff they have the QB coach wide receiver coach and so on throughout various positions

Steve Turner is also an assistant coach this year. Does anyone know what are Zap's coaching specialties?

Dan Ferris hasnt been spotted in the box or whispering in Baz's ear this year has he?
Sandercock got a pretty good wrap from Burton the other day
As someone said, Furners track record aint spectacular.
Came here to mention this, we barely hear about Sandercock, but Burto credited him with improving his kicking game since he came here from Penriff.

Coaches have a huge impact on the team.

If you look at soccer take PSG for example, they literally have the best attacking front 3 in the world, a world class midfield, defensive line and a GK and they underachieve every single season. That comes down to how they are coached, how the assistant coaches train them during the week and etc.

Our strength right now is all the recruits we have brought in are individually stars or are potentially stars and that has in general uplifted most of the team. Okunbor being the exception. But if our coaching at all levels is subpar then eventually our stars will drop in level and the team will go back to being the way it was. Burton and Addo Car specifically came from incredibly well coached teams and they're bringing that energy with them but it will only last so long.

Didn't you just destroy your own argument, PSG (whoever the fark they are) "have the best attacking front 3 in the world" but their coaches must be shit because they "underachieve every single season". But they still "have the best attacking front 3 in the world", surely by your logic if the coaches were that bad then "the best attacking front 3 in the world" wouldn't go there?
