Trent Barrett has stood himself down from Penrith’s recruitment committee following his signing with the Canterbury Bulldogs.

“He’s handled it all very professionally,” Panthers chairman Dave O’Neill said.

Barrett will have an eye on players at other clubs while he looks to rebuild at Belmore next year with $2.5 million available in the Dogs’ salary cap.

The Panthers have moved on from the Phil Gould era by appointing a committee to handle recruitment.

Ivan Cleary, Cameron Ciraldo, Matt Cameron and Jim Jones from the football department have been joined by board members Greg Alexander, O’Neill and chief executive Brian Fletcher.

It is a huge change from the Gould days as general manager.

Gus was a one-man show, often doing deals without even the coach knowing.

Apparently S.Crighton is set to be offered 1.5M over 3yrs by Penrith..
We should offer him 600k over 4yrs,and the chance to play with his brother..
I would run him at fullback and put Averillo at 6
This guy is a naturally talented beast and we should chase him hard

Love how the media reports 2.5m left in the cap taking out Cotric’s salary but not recognising CHN’s salary back in the kitty..

It’s 2.8-3m left in the war chest

Thanks for posting the article.

Two points, if you haven’t heard the interview on NRL.com today with Adam Elliott I suggest you do. Good interview and he mentioned he got 3 calls from an unknown number so thought he’d better call back. It was Barrett, so he’s already doing the rounds and said to AE what his plans were and that he wanted me to be a part of it. Then went on to say that hes been a doggies fan since he was 4 and couldn’t think of playing for anyone else BUT he has recently become a dad and now that he’s out injured he’s attracting offers from other clubs and it’s something that he seriously needs to think about as his next contract decision will be his most important “so I have to do what’s best for my family”. LOCK HIM IN NOW! We can’t lose him. He plays with passion and loves playing for the club. He needs to be a priority signing. Conversely, point two, DO NOT in anyway entertain the thought of GUS having anything to do with the club. It will implode. Will make the Des era look great.

I'm fine with that, it's just smart business. Smarter than our board...

According to the media no one has a war chest except the Rorters.. players all play for less there and theres always cap space to sign a superstar..

Up is down.. Black is white..

This just tells us that he’s already started recruiting for next season and he removed himself from the current role to prevent any conflicts of interest.

Also love how they spit on Gould in that article lol. Looks like he has absolutely nothing to do with their current success. If anything, Penrith are probably who they are now because he was sacked. It probably burns him they are doing so well without him but he would have been cheering last season when they were in the shit. He’s a flog. Stick to commentating. Can’t wait to see him show how useless he is to the NRL.
