Averillo should be at fullback. Less decisions in defense and just get him to run the ball which is his strength

Spending time in the halves will only help him strengthen his passing game for when he makes the inevitable switch to fullback eventually. Barrett knows what he is doing with him to develop his weaknesses.

Over the past few weeks, Burton struggled without an experienced half next to him. He only played well in the second half of the sharks game. I feel most of us want Johnson to help take pressure off Burton next season. I feel his experience and leadership will help develop immensely.
I can report....as I live inside Baz's head....that the last 2 weeks have been most revealing as to what positions we need to shore up...knowing we have Burton, JAC and Nader coming next year.
Burtons games at half for Penrith showed Baz that the kid would work a lot better beside an experienced half next season. Hence, why, in light of Penriths last 2 games, Baz has got the Club to sweeten its offer to Johnson. The feeling in the front office now is that we need an experienced half to partner Burton and take pressure (he will feel coming to the Club as the messiah) off him.
Baz had hoped Flano could of developed further this year, and he will still be retained and helped develop, but Johnson is preferred to partner Burton next year now, with the welcome form of Averillo seeing him a strong option at Fullback hopefully, or if JAC (or Meaney can be retained and proves a success at FB), then in the centres for Avo.

Averillo is similar height and weight to Tedesco so definitely can be a be good fullback. At 6 foot tall he’s surprisingly the 4th shortest player in our current lineup 1-17 after wakeham katoa and Jackson.

Fullback is and always was a specialist position. You cant just chuck a promising kid into fullback.
The discussion about 6 or 7 is moot. The 7 manages one side and the 6 manages the other.
The main ingredient to being successful, is for the halves to compliment each other.
This is the way the game has developed.

What is the obsession with Shaun Johnson now? He is cooked.

I'd rather have x factors in the halves who can develop and be at the club long term aka Burto & Avo. We just need to get a pack & hooker who will get us on the front foot to give these guys some time and space.
I'm with you. Develop what we have in the 1,6 & 7 and buy a top shelf 8, 9 or 10. Lets not screw up the Cap again.

Played a lot of juniors at 1. If we get SJ would be a no brainer. Or an X Factor off the bench like Cronulla did with Barba

With burton and SJ halves i would love to see Avo at the back as a roving FB. He would be perfect and is quick and would hit holes perfectly. He is stronger than Meaney and more talented. Has a passing and kicking game. Perfect out the back

Yes and the key to that is - Craig Bellamy & Cameron Smith
So it's impossible for us because Averillo and Burton aren't part of the Storm system? The META is stacking the spine with ball runners, as long as they aren't stupid like Milford or whatever then I can't see why they can't develop into the role if we partner them with someone like SJ.

I think Avo would be great at the back. My only concern would be how he would handle it under the high ball. May be an idea defend him in the centre's and move him into the fullback role when we Are on the attack similar to what the Roosters did with RTS

I'm definitely for getting SJ and partnering him with Burton. Averillo to FB and bob's your uncle

SJ will be a major player in keeping Burton here long term, and we need a couple of props quick smart.

Only Melb can manufacture HB's out of nothing (Cronk, Hughes)

If they are going to be top players they don't need a washed up half to baby sit them in the team.

Did Sherwin need experience by his side? How did having Floporan work out for the development of our halves??

Fullback if SJ does end up coming otherwise at no.6

His main strength is his running game and can ball play, he seems more natural at FB but there's also a lot more positional changes as well as how well he goes under the high ball

1. Avo
6. Burton
7. SJ

Take a hint ;)
For his long term future I reckon Avo would be better off as fullback.

He could end up being a decent halfback but he just doesnt have the ball playing ability and control to be elite.

He does however have the attributes to be an elite fullback. I'm not saying he will but I think he has more potential to be a great fullback than he does to be a great halve

Think today showed pretty clearly, Averillo isnt a halfback, that mistake got them back into the game and completely took the wind out of us, plus his kicking was real average. I like Jake but hes not a 7.
