Don't bother with GayVG ... biggest system hog known to man, and misses a lot of viruses.

Avira Antivir is the king of free AV suites these days. Very decent detection rates, nice interface, and it runs very lean.

I have no problem with AVG. It actually blocks the website you're entering if it's dodgy.

Free 1 Year Genuine Trend Micro Internet Security 2010

To get your free 1 year Trend Micro Internet Security 2010 license, all you need to do is just download the 149MB TIS175_IOMEGA.exe setup file.

During installation, when asked to enter your Trend Micro Internet Security serial number, just select “Install a free trial version“. You will also come to a part where you need to activate the program by entering your email address. After installation the first update will be round 75mb.

Thanks for all the help guys - I've had this laptop for about 4-5 months with no anti virus running on it, and I've downloaded a lot of questionable things, so just wanna make sure it's safe.

Have used a total of 6 different Anti Viruses in the past 10 years

Norton - rubbish
Trend micro - not that much better
AVG - solid
McCafe - VERY SOLID

Til i came to... Avast (Home Edition). Probably the best of all. And if you get the home edition its completey free.

i haven't used an anti virus for the last 3 years and my laptop is still going cool

i believe anti virus companies are behind the so called viruses and if you get one of their products it will only cause problems so you feel protected and buy the update
