Annesley Warns Bulldogs To Cut Out Go-Slow Tactics

Don't read stats! Storm are happy for a fast game if they are winning, when they are behind the 8 ball they intentionally slow everything down, wrestle and sap the momentum out of the opposing team and the refs do nothing. Remember they invented it!

Souths gave as good as they got and they used other types of questionable tactics that have not been put under the spotlight but are also a blight on the game. They need to learn that the markers must be square at all times ( in particular Cook) and that gang tacklers need to ALL release at once as the rule states, rather than peeling off one at a time . Walking off the mark is another one that they break with monotonous regularity. Handling the marker after the play the ball is also an issue as is the predilection of Sam Burgess to have a sly working over of the tackler with little niggly forearms.

Bennett always throws out a reason for his sides poor performance and always the reason is that they have not performed poorly, rather that the other side has been naughty and broken the rules to slow down his precious side. Play the ball averages were less than .5 of a second overall on average slower for Souths according to the NRL stats for the game.Actually .43 of a second different.

They had 56% possession having the ball in play for 6 minutes 44 seconds longer than us.Every single stat bar a few favoured them ( Tackles, bombs, kick defusal, missed tackles, errors, ineffective tackles, penalties)

The NRL issued the edict that referees were to officiate to the flow of the game after the penalty- thon of last year. Now Bennett has a hissy fit and it should all change again.

The NRL needs to address the main protagonist of the wrestle and the slow down and that is Melbourne.

A quick check of stats relating to Play the ball/ ruck indiscretions for Melbourne for the first six rounds with penalties awarded against as follows:

Hold down: 1

Interestingly they were NOT penalised for any such infringements ( bar one inside 10)when they played the Dogs. Looking at things they have been done for reinforces a comment I made on the Kennel relating to them breaking just about every rule in the book for the PTB/ruck in every game yet where is their warning?

Should be up to the discretion of the referee in the circumstances, not a sudden clamp down.
There was only one extra penalty we could of got pinged for.

 

At the end of the day it's the ref's issue not the Dogs. They are the ones officiating and according to them they didn't do it. Drop the ref's then? They blow a penalty early in the game to set the standard and maintain it from there, that's the way it always happened. Not wait for some old fossil to whinge about something (even though he won) and then go dig out the stats to support said coach? WTF is with that? Do your job on gameday ref you f*wits!

The Rabbitohs were playing slow to draw penalties after the dogs started wrestling. This makes this statistic bunk shit.

If it’s to difficult for teams to get inside 10m after quick play the balls then maybe have a rethink and bring back the 5m defence line.

 

Jesus christ!! You lot have to take off the blue and white goggles. As Nab said, we were having an orgy in the ruck. Did you watch the Melbourne game? It was a very entertaining free flowing game. They were wrestling but not having a fucking picnic like us. They have mastered the art, we were taking the fucking piss. All the experts have come out and criticised the dogs slowing down the ruck against the bunnies. We should have been binned 10 times. But nooooooo, the refs are cheating cunts blah blah blah. Every team every fucking week are rorted by the ref's. Fuck them.

 

I find it hard to believe that all season we are the only team that has excessively exceeded the average play the ball time.. it's completely unreasonable to single us out in this manner and the club really needs to respond with a strong statement.. coaches cannot criticise referees but it's ok for the referees boss to criticise teams??

Are dominant tackles and surrender tackles factored into their stats?

 

Pretty much everyone has agreed we did it. We just noted that plenty of other teams are not getting the same microscope for various things. If the Ref's didn't police it on the day which is their fukin job then what good is it coming out with all this shite afterwards? Blow a penalty in the game, set the standard, maintain it and bin if necessary.....how hard is that? It's a ref's fuk up not ours? We were playing a superior team and we tried to slow it down, they allowed it.......ref's fault!

P.S It's the exact tactic that the Storm did second half and got away with against us when we were on top. Slowed down the ruck, took our momentum!

 

Two massive issues with this.

1. What are the tacklers to do when attacker’s keep pushing off the mark. The slow ball is a result of this cheating by the attacker
2. By issuing this statement in public, every referee will now over-referee us with a preconceived idea that is how we play. It’s bad enough that we lose penalty counts week after week, but it feels like it’s about to get a whole lot worse

 

Kicking a dog whilst its down! The one thing that's upsetting me at the moment with our club, and it's been like this for a while, is we keep bending over to the NRL, when is someone going to start standing up to them, honestly we've become soft like marshmallows....
