If Hazem El Masri had been our kicker from his debut until he had retired and kicked at the same rate he would've ended up with 3161 points. A mark that would've been impossible to catch. Vossy said it would've been Bradman like.

Hazem is still so underrated by the NRL and they have never really made a big deal about his achievments.

Oh El Magic. He is surely missed.
Other than his impeccable goal kicking, I will never forget how good he and Sherwin were when it came to grubber kicks and trys. *sigh*
100% ... everyone always talks about his goal kicking .. but he had an amazing ability to read the play.. could sniff out an intercept and score a try off a kick .. he defended well above his weight also ...

Tears me up being a little lad , still remember his kicks during the big win streak, and against New castle . We had short wingers but great finishers, both trumped the roosters . In grand final and who can forget Matty Utais try against roosters!! Stuart’s face said it all

El Masri was only a good goal kicker. BULLSHIT. You don't become the 7th highest try scorer in the games 110+ year history by only being a good goal scorer. Bloody idiots who say that are as blind as a bat :tonguewink::tonguewink::tonguewink:

I'd like to know how many tries those who surpass his point-scoring record end up scoring!

What about defense? Who can forget the try-saving tackle he did on Steve Bell back in the 2003 Semi Final vs The Storm? Or the tackle against Brisbane in 2002 where he smashed Lote Tuqiri to row 3 of the grandstand FFS?

Can you imagine Hazem playing on the wing in todays game lol Cotrel, Toupu, Ferguson, Hayne, Oates, Hymel Hunt, Vunivalu, Addo Carr, v Anthony Don, Mansour, Waqa Blake, Kyle Feldt, Fusitua, the poor little bastard would be a rag dolled, pummelled piece of meat unable to have the strength to even kick a goal during a game. Then he will need to handle the high ball as well, being 5'6"? now that will be a breeze too!!

They changed the rules because he was so good at cutting off the pass while making a tackle, the only other player I can remember that made them do that was Alfie Langer with his "cumberland throw".

One of my all time favourite Doggies.

Good to see the General snuck into that list on 100.

With tries scored, imagine what the numbers would be if the goal post rule wasnt changed?

Did you see how he rag-dolled Tuqiri? Did you see how many tries he scored off the high ball? He's stronger than he looks.

sorry my bad.. not "goal" post, but the corner post.

edit: found the rule.

Corner Post If a player makes contact with a corner post he will not be deemed to be out of play unless any part of his body made contact with either the touch-in-goal line or the touch line or the ground beyond. If the ball is not in possession of a player and it makes contact with the corner post (e.g. from a kick) the ball will be deemed to be touch–in-goal as per section 9(2).

He's underrated on here let alone the wider world. Maybe it's one of those things that he needed to be your era and watched him to fully understand his abilities? The confidence you felt when he lined up a kick was ridiculous lol. Greatest kicker of all time and had an ability to score lots of tries too! All hail El Magic!!!

clearly an uneducated response, as the era of the big wingers started in the mid to late 90's by Wayne Bennett and the broncos.. And haz handled himself fine with those guys

Corey Thompson is doing well, so don't think so. I remember Hazem smashing Greg Inglis when we v Storm at Gosford one evening.

Agree. He's so underrated and people always point to him not being quick - he was a finesse winger who was probably one of the best finishers ever. 100+ career tries - as per your link, look at the players he is ahead off. So under appreciated.

I have a fabulous photograph that I purchased from the newspaper of Hazem scoring us the winning try in the 2004 grandfinal (very hard to believe this was the last time we won the premiership - it is so long ago).

You would all recall that Haz took a while and had to really struggle to get the ball down. But he did it.

In the background of the photo is Haz's opposing winger Shannon Hegarty standing there just watching the tackle but doing nothing to assist.

He is actually clapping his hands that Haz has been held up in goal.

Well, it is bad news for you Hegarty.

Helps he played in some monster high scoring teams which equals a lot of chances to kick, statistically no teams in today's game scored as many points as the early Roosters, Bulldogs and that 2001 Eels team who scored 700 points or something ridiculous.

150 tries though damn
