The degenerative state of that country is alarming.

Prior to the first presidential debate, moderator Chris Wallace said his goal was to be “invisible” – but at many points it seemed the Fox News host was arguing with Donald Trump more than Joe Biden.

Very surprised to see an article taking this angle on the debate.

In summary - saying that Wallace seemed to spend more time debating Trump than just moderating.

In what way?

Overall, I think the debate was reflective of the general state of discourse throughout America right now.

But I don't see how it could get 'messy'? Or at least not any more messy than it already is.

Well that was an interesting, if not fanciful, take by Don Jr and Fox.

Trump must wear the total responsibility for the direction the debate went and Wallace was impotent to change it.

They won't be happy until they have a Proud Boy moderating the "debate".

Proud Boys are planning a counter protest in Portland over the weekend.

They have also stated they are inviting confrontation.

They are a designated hate group in the USA who have openly said they are looking for trouble.

Not sure about your definition but to me that has the potential to get messy.

And they have a history of violent confrontation very much like the brown shirts

trump didn't want to participate in the debate, he killed it off

this is like when soccer teams are scared of the power of the opposition so they park the bus, make the game ugly and disrupt them with fouls

I've heard of Proud boys but tbh don't know the first thing about what they stand for or how they came into being etc.
